Wayspot Rejection Appeal

Main St. Mohnton Water Tower

Mohnton, PA

This portal is on Water Department property and there is clearly a “No Trespassing” sign right on the water tower itself (visible in portal photo). I used “on private residential property” tag for the report because its the closest to the truth, that its private property, but its not residential. Please remove this portal.

Ingress players that work at that water department property clearly have access to it. Not all portals have to be accessible to everyone. Stop trying to delete what you can’t beat.

No players work at the Water Department. So both sides actively trespass when a property is clearly off limits. Water Department shouldn’t have to contact niantic, Niantic should respect posted signs.

Niantic should not have to get involved in a faction war. If you truly think this should be removed for safety, contact the company as I suggested.

This explains what Niantic considers ineligible “private property”:

absolutely insane to me that this game encourages breaking the law but thanks

oh there are two of these

this one is for Main St. Mohnton Water Tower

No, we don’t.

While Niantic does encourage all players to abide by local laws, as stated in the game’s Terms of Service and as reiterated through in-game warnings and notifications, we ultimately cannot control or be responsible for how individual users elect to act or behave on their own volition.

If you’re not certain you have the right to access a location or are not certain it is safe to access, please do not make any attempts to do so. As a player or any other member of the community, you must respect access restrictions, never trespass, or in any manner gain or attempt to gain access to any property or location where you do not have the right or permission to be. Please review and follow the player Guidelines at all times while playing our games to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone!

When a portal is approved with a photo of said portal sporting a “no trespassing” sign, the burden shouldn’t fall on the property owner to go through hoops to remove a portal. They did their due diligence by posting signs. Remove it please.

As explained by @cyndiepooh , this Wayspot does not meet our criteria for removal. We will be happy to collaborate with the property owner to address any concerns that they may have.

See, here’s the thing. It’s only trespassing for people who have no right being there. People that have the right to be there aren’t trespassing.

This is a trashy way to operate rules of a game. The Water Department isn’t aware of ingress, but they have made it public knowledge they don’t want people on their property. But lets ignore that because they haven’t personally told us we cant be there. No wonder this game is toxic.

“Note that nominations on private residential property are ineligible.”

This Wayspot is on Private local government property, therefore it IS ineligible and should be removed.

you missed the word “residential”

welcome to the forum btw!

Here is how the tool tip in the review flow addresses “Appropriate” locations.

So what if there was a “gathering” of people at the entrance of this water tower entrance, wouldn’t that obstruct emergency operations if a “said employee” of the water department could not access it for an emergency? Please make it make sense…

The op was trying to say that this should be removed for being on private property. I haven’t seen any proof presented that the location obstructs emergency services.

It is clearly on private property and it should be removed. This is all based on the foundation that this is a valid portal to begin with. Who is gathering on water department property? Under which criteria does this portal even fall?

  • A location with historical significance, educational value, or a cool story
  • A cool piece of art or unique architecture
  • A hidden gem or hyper-local spot
  • A public park
  • A public library
  • A public place of worship
  • A major transportation hub

criteria has changed over the years. water towers were visible landmarks that were readily accepted early on, and still are sometimes accepted as having significance. a change to the acceptance criteria does not not mean that they now meet removal criteria.

You can see the old guidance here:
https://ingressama.com/search?q=water+towers

Q36: The OPR Guide has accessibility limitations for certain candidates:

  • Water towers need to be accessible without entering restricted area

How is a “restricted area” defined? On what planet is an area covered by no trespassing signs not restricted?
