Wayspot Removal Rejected Appeal - Comeau Trail Marker

  • Wayspot Title: Comeau Trail Marker
  • Location (lat/lon): 42.035498, -74.141740
  • City: Woodstock, NY
  • Country: United States

*Additional Information: This wayspot was created in an incorrect location and has several further disqualifying issues.
First, there is no trail anywhere near this location.

Second, while it is on public property - the area is called Mallory Grove (connected to Rick Volz Field) - it is not on The Comeau Property, where the Comeau Trail runs (which can be seen on Google Maps). The Comeau Trail does display many identical markers to the one used to create this incorrect wayspot. That public property is about a mile to the east and is not connected.

Third, the area the wayspot is in is completely wooded; the only way to reach it is by crossing a stream and walking through the woods OR by trespassing on private land.

Most of this can easily be determined by comparing maps:

The Grey pin on the left near Woodstock Dog Park is the approximate location of the incorrect wayspot (no marked trails), with The Comeau (marked trails) to the right.

A county parcel map of the same area, with public lands in green.

I know that’s frustrating.

We’ll have to see the whole nomination, to try to guess what probably sunk it. Texts and pictures.

Also, did your original rejection say “our team” or “the community” decided?

And when you look at it on your contribution page, what reasons are given?

There are thousands of possibilities, and making us guess will just annoy everyone.

Like… Maybe the picture has your dashboard or finger. A person, or is blurry. Maybe it just looks like leaves and sky. Maybe you mentioned PokemonGo in your text. Maybe maybe maybe…

They are posting an appeal for a rejected removal request and are suggesting that the wayspot is incorrect, so it’s not theirs, I don’t think this advice applies.

Thanks, my mistake.

@WhiteCircles I am moving this to Wayspot Appeals since this is what it seems to be, for the team to be able to access it more easily.

@Xenopus, thanks for the appropriate re-classification. New to the system here and I had not seen or I misunderstood the type of appeal and which Category it should be posted to.

No worries at all!

Thanks for the appeal, @WhiteCircles. After reviewing the additional evidence provided, we’ve decided to retire the Wayspot in question.
