Hello, I recently had a Wayspot approved. I wasn’t in the vicinity of the Wayspot when it was approved but I asked another player and they said it did appear, but then disappeared shortly after. I’ve had a look on the Ingress Intel Map and also went through the workflow of submitting a new Wayspot (which shows all nearby Wayspots) - neither of which show any trace of the Wayspot. So it seems it was removed, and I’d like to know why and whether I need to resubmit it.
- Wayspot Title: Salvation Army Mawson Lakes
- Location (lat/lon): -34.807163,138.615058
- City: Adelaide
- Country: Australia
- Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information): n/a
- Additional Information (if any): Wayspot was submitted on Dec 17th, accepted on Jan 14th.
Hello and welcome,
This appears to be a thrift store, which may be seen as a generic business. It isn’t a great place to exercise, and I wouldn’t do much socialization there either. It may be worth exploring, but it may also be considered part of a chain, since there are many Salvation Army thrift stores around the world.
Also, Google Maps says this location is permanently closed.

Appreciate your thoughts DTrain - the second point about it being closed does seem relevant!! I’ll have to go have a closer look. If that’s the reason, I’m curious about the process, since it would have only been in game for a day or two. Do removals really get approved that quickly?
There is an option to choose for Wayspots that no longer exists on the in-game removal request form. And yes, it could’ve been approved that quickly as it takes a few days, usually no more than a week, for a removal request to be resolved. I typically hear back within a few days.
So, being it was approved on January 14th, it should have been in-game by January 16th, and a player could have requested removal as early as then.
It’s possible that this location was still in operation when you nominated it on December 17th, but only recently closed. There are businesses that closed recently where I live, and some only gave a week or 2 notice before doing so, especially a restaurant that closed about a week after announcing they were going out of business.
Yes it was still in business when I checked, but it’s not an area I go directly past often. I will try and check to see if Google is right about it closing. I would still appreciate a check from Niantic to see if this was reported and removed for that reason.
I did check the Salvation Army’s website for a store location here (the link is still on Google Maps), and it didn’t show one. The closest thrift store of theirs to Mawson Lakes is in Walkley Heights.
They also had a Facebook page, and that has been removed.

Thanks for the appeal, @HurryUpTehCakes We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Wayspot.
