Additional Information (if any):
This is a Costco, a members-only big-box warehouse store. It is one of the largest retailers in the world and has nearly 900 locations worldwide.
I reported this POI using the option “unsuitable for AR experiences.” This is a busy store full of people pushing shopping carts and flatbeds and getting large items from shelves to put on carts and flatbeds.
I also do not believe it fits the Wayfarer criteria. It is NOT a great place to explore the community or socialize. Though there is some incidental walking involved in the shopping experience the chain offers, Costco is also NOT a place intended as a venue for light exercise as it is crowded with people and shopping carts and aisles of wares.
It IS a great place to buy Kirklands brand bacon in bulk.
While, I agree with you entirely, the issue will be that once something is in the database, it can only be removed for specific reasons. Unfortunately, not having met the eligibility criteria to begin with is not one of those reasons. I believe this is due at least in part to changes in criteria over the years, as well as different perspectives as to what is and is not eligible. However, for this to be removed, it would need to meet one of the reasons for removal, which are typically lack of safe pedestrian access, located on school grounds for children under 18 years of age located on private single-family residential property, etc.

I am hopeful that they might be changing this policy a bit. We have seen removals accepted for graffiti and individual disc golf holes. I will be following this post with interest.
I do understand not wanting to set a precedent for having to reconsider every single accepted business. But I also hate to have examples like this in game for less informed submitters to then copy the example, thinking it has to be eligible if it is in game.

True enough. Ingress report options are the same as ever, but PoGo recently added an option “not suitable for AR experiences,” which is what I believe I suggested because, well, it’s not. I’ll add that to my post.
Some person in my town also submitted a “plaza” with a Walmart, cell phone store, and Pizza Hut. As someone who has added hundreds of POIs and even updated OSM to add missing city parks, this situation makes be sad.

Thanks for the appeal, @KytaLily. We took another look at the Wayspot in question and decided that it does not meet our criteria for removal at this time.
Ok.
I’ll be back when if word ever comes down that the DB doesn’t benefit from being full of box stores and strip mall signs. But I have a suspicion it won’t if that data is valuable to buyers.
