What happens to scan data taken with Pokemon GO?

Does the scan data remain at Saudi owned Scopely or is the scan data send to Niantic Spatial ?
Third option is that both companies have access to Pokemon GO scan data?

Personally I play and scan only with Ingress.

Ingress was not part of the sale to Scopely.

Thanks for the answer, but unfortunately that was not quite what I was asking :slight_smile: See title.

I already knew Ingress was not part of the sale.
I also assume that scan data taken with Ingress remains only within Niantic Spatial.

I think this is something you’d need to ask the Pokémon GO help chat in the app.

There’s not any Pokémon GO team members here so you’re very unlikely to get an answer.

No one knows for sure, as there has been no official statement from Scopely, Wayfarer, PoGo, or Spatial.
At present, the pokestop scan function is available in the PoGo application, so we can assume that it is currently being sent from PoGo to Spatial via Wayfarer.
However, considering that PoGo producer Michael Stranka suggested in an interview with an influencer that he does not scan pokestops, and that most PoGo trainers are uncooperative with scanning, I think it will be discontinued in the future.

Perhaps an experiment could help to get the answer:

  • scan a pokéstop several times and see if the overclock icon becomes active on the corresponding ingress portal;
  • check if some pokémon VPS features are activated (I’m not too familiar with those though)
  • maybe also try scanning a new pokéstop that doesn’t exist in ingress.

Yes, Wayfarer doesn’t handle AR scans, so best to ask the PoGo team.
