What I mean by this is what is your best photo of a trail marker and the scenery behind it like the hills or the path that the trail is on in your main image? Recently when I’ve nominated trail markers I’ve been getting photos of the background aswell as the trail marker in my main image to make the nomination better. I will usually put my phone to the left or right slightly so you can see the background in the main image (if it’s a good one).
Mine aren’t all that great - I clearly need to go out and add some new images that are more imaginative
My 3 favourites are all by the river, and I particularly like the 2 with bridges in the background
I’m the opposite to you. I think the focus should be on the actual trailmarker for the main photo and then photos like yours should be the supporting photo/added as additional photos later. So the best ones to me are the ones with the trailmarker occupying most of the image like below.
I will add in one here though that I thought would be rejected. It was the height of COVID in the UK but we were fine going out to exercise so I found plenty of new Wayspots. Main image and then a snippet of supporting information.
I’m pretty sure I did add an additional photo in the end.
You can still see and clearly read what the trail markers are called. If the trail name was blurry than i would agree with you but im just doing this because trail markers are a boring thing to nominate and review and i guess this makes it better for everyone involved. It could make reviewing more interesting as the only thing that i seem to be reviewing are edits, trail markers/public footpaths (especially the metal ones in the Sheffield area where it takes you from new street to old street) and businesses. Anyways the supporting photo for these were good enough
What to choose….
Sticking with the theme of the view
And ok this isn’t the main photo
I love the U.K. SW coastal path.
Oh these are absolutely stunning!! As are @elijustrying’s
On the theme of focussing on the marker, this one is one I’m really happy with because it lines up really well with the pokestop circular frame, and I love the swan logo they use
Yes the marker is not in the best condition (this is adter scrubbing!!) but its actually one of the best on the whole trail, most of them are near unreadable. Its very well documented online though
@bilde2910 mandatory tag
I love the trail marker diversity around the world. Everyone has a different way of marking trails, some countries even have their own special style.
The main style for trail markers in Norway has dark green/black backdrop, white text with a square with green/blue/red/black behind the walking person icon, then a simple > arrow at the other end. Most have distance, some have the local hiking association’s logo/name. But i really like trail markers created by the locals themselves, some smaller regions also have styles of their own.
I appreciate the tag! On the other hand, do you have any idea how hard it is to make a choice when the majority of your 3000+ photo/wayspot submissions are trail markers?
Let’s start with a couple of winter photos. The crisp snow and warm lighting make for some nice natural contrasts that I love when I see them:
Good color composition is also something I like. This one I was particularly happy with when I took it:
A few others, like this one with the letters contrasting the sign due to the angle of the sun:
Autumn time in the mountains and national parks can also be nice if the conditions are right:
When the sun starts going down, you can also get some nice color plays, like this one by a marsh:
Or this one in a national park. I believe this was around 9-10 pm (yay for long days in the northern hemisphere summer):
I’ve also taken a liking to photos submitted at night. The starry sky makes for a nice backdrop. This was taken at midnight in March a couple years back:
And just this September, I got one of my favorite trail marker photos thus far, in the middle of mainland Norway’s largest national park, far from any of the light pollution of the cities:
I absolutely love these, especially the stars!!!
These are the extra
Well I am partial to a PROW
This was inspired by a discussion on the old forum where we were trying to help
If I’d used my support pictures I wouldn’t be in last place with the other Surrey person but I’d also have to appeal them
Looking at all of these is making me want to walk an entire trail just to get some better photos than the 3 I’ve done
