When can we get additional nominations?

I have been on fire recently submitting a bunch of nominations. I am back up to 7 available nominations. It would be great to have more. I miss the additional 40 that I used to have from Ingress.

It is a common request but 1 that doesn’t seem to be on the top of the list.

Personally 40 a year would be fine  and I think the current amounts are OK for the majority so don’t think it’s a priority.

At least we can save a lot of drafts to submit in the future

True, but there are problems with the drafts.

1.) You have to be within 10 km of the location you made the draft.
2.) It might be a while until you get enough available nominations to submit all of your drafts.

We have seen the team increase the refresh rate for nominations. They seemed to do it in the past with ease. If they want to leave the cap at 40, that’s fine, but just increase the refresh rate.

40 a year? You know it is currently 40 nominations available and you get a new nomination each day & it caps at 40.

The current amounts are lower now compared to when Ingress was still around. I used to have nominations on Pokemon Go and Ingress.

Yeah, I do wish they would extend the 10km radius. And I agree that more nominations would be ideal. Maybe they could offer more nominations as a reward for reaching X agreements with a Great rating

Honestly, I do not know if it is even necessarily for people to have earn the right to more nominations. The team is good at catching people doing harmful nominations.

With the rating system, that is for reviewing, which does not necessarily mean they are a good nominator.

I’ve started submitting actively again, and right now I could easily find 40 eligible things to nominate in a single day. This limitation is really holding me back.

I’m also planning to attend a local Wayfarer event where I will only have around 12 available submissions if I don’t submit anything until then, and the 10 km distance limit for drafts isn’t helping in that case. Because of that, I’ll have to ignore certain nominations or ask other people to submit them if I run out of submissions…which will happen quickly.

I would even spend my upgrades on additional submissions, I’m literally waiting for this feature to be added in the future.

That’s true, but I assume part of the challenge with allowing more nominations is the amount of time those nominations remain in the queue waiting for review. Longer wait times = a bad user experience for those who nominate, so incentivizing more reviews could help to balance out the impact of more submissions (across the system as a whole).

Of course being unable to submit nominations is worse than having a bunch of them waiting in the queue – I’m just saying that I assume some of this is about controlling the number of nominations vs. the speed at which they are reviewed.

I do know.

Was just stating that 40 a year would be enough for me.

I am not a “big numbers” person so it amazes me when people state that the current amount is not enough.

Just to clarify that I wasn’t saying they should not increase the levels just that IMO it would be a small percentage of wayfarers that it would effect so don’t reckon it’s a priority.

1 Upgrade for 10 additional submissions | I already posted this on the WDD Discord server, and I think this feature would encourage people who actively submit nominations to also review more in order to earn upgrades they could use for additional submissions.

This way, the extra nominations entering the review pool could be balanced out, instead of potentially clogging the system. At first, people would probably use their stockpiled upgrades from the past, which aren’t really needed in some areas due to fast resolution times.

Agreed. I nominate regularly. And 40 has never been a problem. So for the vast vast majority it is just fine. And as @castiglionesi said why put pressure on the reviewing system. That has taken many years to get where we are. Adding more items to review and encouraging people to speed review. More poo in..

So like any good product management it is a balancing act. Sure we want everything done first and now but hey  And the vast majority of game players never had an ingress and a PGO account. Sooooo. The 40 never impacted the majority..

And for many “players” of games there are probably far higher priority issues to be managed first.

For me. I would want higher quality nominations and higher quality accepted before giving out more. Let alone cleaning up the DB of rotton nominations still in there. That is a battle that still needs resolving way before giving out more nominations or further reducing the time it takes to have nomination rights.

And so right there is a battle for Niantic. Higher quality noms, more noms, reviewing noms, cleaning DB. And that is before you get to all the other stuff. Niantics higher priority has been taking street corners and bus stops etc. And all the poo that has brought with it. 'Cause you know that said essentially y’all have to follow rules to nominate but we will really muddy the water with creating our own poo  which now encourages people to add their own poo  And now they have to solve that…

Ahhh product management - such fun…

Maybe Douglas Adams got it wrong and the meaning of life was 40

My only worry would be as well as encouraging people to review more that could encourage more people to review badly.

Just an opinion and not saying that it would be everyone…

I’d also like to see the web submission form warning users when a lat/long is in a potentially invalid location to prevent so many invalid submissions from going through. I was cracking up when I saw @NianticTintino’s post about water fountains because my team at work (I’m an engineering manager on a geospatial team) just worked on a feature to warn users before they accidentally place map pins into bodies of water  It would not be too difficult to warn users about submissions on school property, for example, preventing these from ever entering the review stream.

This would be great in principle, problems would depend in what data they have and is it up to date.

How long before a new school is listed as such? How long before a closed school is updated. Could eligible schools such as “Dance School” cause problems?

I can’t speak for this on a global level, but within the US, data providers like Precisely and GreatSchools update their information approximately once per quarter. It’s not perfect, and some areas get more data updates than others. I think blocking submissions would go too far and would create more headaches than it’s worth… but warning users that the location they selected appears to be on K-12 school property (and reminding them that anything on K-12 school property is ineligible) could be a good user experience improvement + an easy way to reduce invalid submissions.

ah yea. Geo Fencing tools.

But you know you could also have a pop up as well that works for what category selected or written. For example. State survey marks are nominated in Australia. 99.99999% fail Niantic Criteria. Why not just when user selects category geodetic sign - pop up the criteria clarification. you can have client side AI calls that check text prior to submission and if key words detected then pop up a validator question. Works for fountains too and a range of other submission types.

The same can apply at review stage. Pop up appears. This nominaton is a type a. Please check it against criteria b. So you call out to the reviewer pay attention here.

But again priority. Good solution though @castiglionesi

Am sure there are a range of tools that together could improve

Maybe put criteria clarifications directly in front of new reviewers after every 10–20 reviews, and make them appear less frequently the more reviews someone has completed. Most people won’t go to forums or read the criteria pages just to earn their 1,500 agreements for the PoGo badge :joy:

Something like that:

Again. Another great idea. Together with a range of tools to nudge users to review/nominate better

love it.

Imagine that it can recognise a key word. How good that when someone writes historic - it pops up a message - support how/why historic. I had a review just now. Historic this. Historic that. And no evidence of why historic - no links, no listings, I know what they were trying to do. Get a nomiation in their hood and they used an old house for it. yeah private property. But my first go to was. Historic. Why and what evidence.

So yes Multiple ways to nudge changes in behaviour for better noms and reviews.

I guess we have moved away from is 40 noms enough  Sorry @Aquablast64 I hope you still nailing out those nominations

Oooh these could also appear as tips on the loading screen, rather than just the Wayfarer logo
