The sponsered GameStop gym in my city is spawning at a toys r us that has been closed for years. It’s probably 100 meters from the GameStop itself, but it’s far enough where you can’t interact with the gym if your standing inside GameStop.
The funny thing is when setting a location for a meetup in campfire the game will recognize the correct GameStop location.
Here’s some geotagged photos for fun of where the gym shows up in game and the actual GameStop location. As well as a link to where the gym is in campfire. Mega Lucario Raid, Tier 4 • Ends at 3:56 PM Niantic Campfire App - App Store
Being this is a sponsored stop, you’ll want to request a location edit via the following link:
Thanks for the advice however since it’s a sponsered spot I was told they need to hear directly from the sponser. I talked to the GameStop employees and none of them have official GameStop email accounts and was told to talk to corporate. I then emailed their contact us email to inform them they weren’t getting what they paid for and offered links and the geotagged photos for them to use.
I’m just curious how a problem like this happens in the first place since campfires meetup locations will have the correct location description, but the gym spawned in a totally random area too far away to be used in the store.
Staff has ways to speak with the sponsor. Also, sponsored stops/gyms are currently not a part of Wayfarer, so you do have to contact the PoGo team to have this looked into.
Campfire is separate from Wayfarer, so I don’t know if there’s anyone here that can assist with that part of your question.
I remember this came up with McDonald’s before.
Based on what I remember, the sponsor provides a list of stores and cords for where to place the gyms/stops and the sponsor has to be the ones to submit changes. So you have to locate and convince the person responsible for that list to update the information.
The US McD’s issue was a special case, as it was noticed right away that many were misplaced, like being in the middle of the street.
With Gamestop, these have been in-game for quite awhile, several years, so it’s best to contact the PoGo team so they can contact Gamestop about the move. Also, this can’t be done in-game, being over 10m away, and the PoGo team and Gamestop can work on this.
This gym popped up like 2 days ago. Maybe you are referencing previous promotions, or your personal area when you say GameStop has had gyms in game for years.
It’s still a sponsored gym, is it not? It may be that there was another Wayspot in that L17 S2 cell that prevented the GameStop one from appearing on the map, but that one has now been removed, and the GameStop gym can now appear.
Again, if it’s a sponsored stop/gym, it needs to be handled by the PoGo team, as sponsored stops/gym are not a part of the Wayfarer map. Sponsored stops/gyms typically have an image that is the same for each stop/gym, the same title/description, and sometimes a link to “Learn More” about the sponsor. Sponsored stops/gyms also have a pink ribbon at the bottom of the stop/gym, on the pole, which marks them as sponsored.
Here’s how the inside of a sponsored GameStop gym should look like:
If this is how the gym looks, this will need to be handled by the PoGo team.

It will need to be handled by the pogo team however your information about sponsored gym locations is incorrect. A sponsored gym will show up in a cell regardless of whether there is a waypoint in that cell. Here’s an example near me of a sponsored gym existing in the same cell as another gym. Yes they are duplicates however one is sponsored and one is an actual waypoint.

Not always true, as there could be an issue with a sponsored stop/gym showing up right away.
Also, Campfire doesn’t show what sponsored stops/gyms fully look like; you need to look at them in PoGo. Campfire isn’t very reliable for showing if a stop/gym is fully sponsored, and it also doesn’t show all stops; it mainly just shows stops that are connected to routes.
I’ve never heard of Sunken Treasure Games, so I’m thinking they went through the process of getting their own sponsored stop/gym, which can be done by businesses at the following link:
I’ve been there in person. It’s quite a drive from home and in an inconvenient area for me to bother showing both gyms are active in game and have been for quite some time.
The fact is sponsored gyms will show up even if the cell is occupied. I’m having a hard time accepting the rest of your response due to this.
I don’t know if there’s anything that staff here can assist with, then. Your best bet is still to contact the PoGo team, as sponsored stops/gyms are not handled by Wayfarer.
