Why would this get rejected?

Hello all,

Does anyone know why this would be rejected?
The Hilton Park Bridge is a large bridge that connects 2 Service Stations,
The Bridge is historic, as it was first built in 1968 along with the 2 Service Stations, people often walk over the bridge to wave to drivers and interact with them as they welcome the area.

I just need some clarification, unless I’m missing something. :sob:

Thanks a million!

If this was a rejection about 20-24 hours after you submitted, and the email says “our team” decided, then “Wayfarer criteria” usually indicates that Niantic’s ML (machine learning ai) model rejected the nomination. I think it relies heavily on the photo, and probably couldn’t comprehend what this structure could be.

If you would like to appeal, human reviewers will look at this. You get 2 appeals, each on a 20 day counter before you can use it again. I normally like to try to resubmit before I appeal since they are limited, but I can’t think of a way to suggest you take the photo to make it clearer what it is. An appeal is not guaranteed to overturn the rejection.

There are lots of folks here who can weigh in on a nomination from England as to whether they would find this an eligible nomination much better than I can. I don’t see how connecting two “Service Stations” makes something a great place for exercise, exploration, or being social. But hopefully I helped explain the “Wayfarer criteria” rejection.

The nomination was said by “our team” and took about 19-20 ish hours to get rejected.

I will try and appeal it now, and will get back to this post on the outcome,

Thanks again cyndie! Damn, your always active on here!

I don’t think this is “England specific,” since skyways are in many areas of the world; there’s a few in the city I live in in the US. I could care less about the service stations, as those are not what are being nominated, just the skyway bridge.

Yeah, I’m thinking that the appeals team might be the way to go with this one. Maybe ML didn’t like the main photo, but I don’t think you want to be standing in the middle of the street below to get a centered photo.

Also, wait about 24-48 hours before upgrading a nomination. Typically, ML will reject within 24 hours, so if it hasn’t been rejected after 24 hours, then you may want to consider upgrading. You don’t get an upgrade back if a nomination is rejected by ML, so it’s best to wait. Personally, I wait at least 48 hours or until the nomination has gone into voting.

UK reviewer, who has stopped at many service stations - that looks like the old Forton Services.
The building that is the service station is architecturally interesting. And if memory serves me right was one of the earliest service stations.
Personally I think the bridge is unlikely to get approved. You are going to have to do a very good submission to get it through.
Many pedestrian bridges do get approved but standard ones that are not on a trail usually dont. It is very functional in design and it gets people across the road but there is not a lot to explore. In its hey day it would get a lot of use to go from the southbound side to the restaurant on the Northbound side but that is long since gone.
Tough sell.
Edit: just realised the word Park was there - do you mean the one near Birmingham? That is really not that special.

Yeah, it’s about 10-15 miles from Birmingham.

I’ve sent it in for an appeal, gonna have to wait to see what Niantic says.

Thanks for the clearup!

Some generic service stations get accepted, some more interesting ones get rejected. I cannot figure it out. I’d argue that they probably scrape into “socialisation” as a category, even if it’s just having a coffee with the people you were just travelling with.

I think there is a case for the actual facility as you say on socialisation…I know people who arrange to meet at such places as they are handy.
Although the businesses are generic the experience can be a social one overall
But the bridge is functional. I’m pretty sure I recall a picnic area at this one.

Cool, an unusual one but I do love a wayspot at a service station.
