30 Days suspention for “Misplacement - need clarification”

Hello Explorers,

I recently received a 30-day suspension for “Misplacement of wayspot submissions” related to my nomination “Wellness Böhmova”. I’m trying to understand what exactly was considered incorrect.

The location is a real, publicly accessible wellness facility, and I placed the pin at the entrance of the building. I did not intend to violate any guidelines, so I would appreciate clarification from the community:

– What are the most common reasons for a “misplacement” suspension?
– Can a small offset (a few meters) trigger this?
– Has anyone experienced a similar case with wellness/fitness facilities?

I have already submitted an official appeal through the form, but I would like to learn from others to avoid future mistakes.

Thank you for any insights.

[Edited] A small offset can cause a suspension for misplacement, but won’t often do so. I would consider a small offset to be 5m or less (approximately). Even when small, this would definitely be a problem if the misplacement puts the wayspot into an empty cell when the real location is an occupied cell, making the wayspot appear as a pokestop/gym when it shouldn’t.

In the countryside under trees where it can be really hard to get a location exactly correct, I could understand a small location error. In urban areas, there’s little excuse.

Wellness/fitness facilities are eligible.

If you post the submission location (post a screenshot of the submission receipt email, with the coordinates shown below the images), you can get advice on this specific location issue.

To my knowledge, there is no official statement to this effect, so this could be quite misleading and dangerous to state as fact.

The proper guidance is that we should try to ensure our submissions are as accurate as possible and place the pin on the item in question.

Pinning the entrance of a building should be fine, as should pinning the building itself. Pinning a PoI somewhere incorrect in order to make it show up in game is considered abuse, and depending on the size of the item, mis-pinning it by a couple of metres would be very obviously wrong.

If you’d like to share the submission in full as a series of screenshots, and share the location (from your submissions email) then we can see if we can help work out what happened :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

My phrasing was poor; I have edited to hopefully make an improvement. (Edited rather than reposted in order to remove the error.)

Example of where the coordinates are in the submission receipt email:

Hey @AttackMasterCZE ,

I have shared all the relevant details in a DM. Please review it and let me know if you have any further questions.

I see this was edited to make it not a fact, but IMO its not needed altogether. There is no guidance whatsoever on what they may or may not act on. Only guidance is that the pin should be correct. Any action or lack of action could be based on many factors and not just an observed distance.

A user should aim to place the pin correctly, they should not feel any sense of safety misplacing it any distance.

I agree completely. I’m just trying to quantify what I would see as a “small location error”.

Sometimes location errors /are/ accidental. When they’re small, in a tricky area (e.g., trees) and provide no benefit (pokestops or powerspots), it’s likely to be unintentional.

Yes, and this can happen at any distance, to an extent. Its more about what can be justified as a mistake, patterns, a person’s track record or other things we might not even think about. We cant and shouldn’t say its based on small or large misplacements.
