Greetings! I recently nominated a beautiful local park that’s in my neighborhood, in which it has been denied. It is called ‘Emily’s Park’, and it is located in a neighborhood titled ‘Highland Park’. I am seeking help and insight as to why it was denied and how I could improve the nomination.
This is a local community park that is completely welcoming to the public. It’s a somewhat large field with some hills and such. In addition to being a special park, it is also made special by a historic landmark that is on the other side of the tree line in the first picture (but this nomination concerns the park, and not the historic building/landmark since I believe the building beyond the park is private property).
Personally, I believe that this park could potentially be eligible as a Waystop, but my main concern is that there is no “grand entrance” to Emily’s Park. In the first picture, there is a visible brick wall, and beyond the photo, there is a second one… but that’s sort of it. Those two brick walls are all there is to make the nomination super flashy and stand out as worth while. And since I pass the park almost everyday and there’s almost always people there (i.e. it’s not a private or useless piece of land), I believe that it is worth the time to pursue.
My only comment for the photo would be to back up a little bit and get the pillars framed nicely with the entry path. Use that as your anchor point so its less of an open field. Doesnt need a banner or sign with the park name but at least helps you identify “park starts here”.
That is the one I would have guessed. And the email will say “our team” and the time frame would have been about 22 hours after you submitted it. Maybe a different time frame if you used “Upload later.”
This would have been an ML (machine learning ai) model rejection, most likely because it couldn’t detect anything eligible in your photo. I usually suggest centering a photo on a bench or similar structure in the park to give it context, but I think I have located this park on Maps and don’t see anything to recommend. Maybe the brick pillars at the sidewalk if you back up and frame the park between them will work?
You also have the option to appeal a rejection, but you only get 2 of them, each on a 20 day counter before you can use them again. I usually will try to submit something at least a couple of times before I use an appeal.
I appreciate the responses and tips! I may have to time things carefully since the streetview picture seen above is taken on a fairly busy road haha. But I will definitely try again with better pictures, including the brick pillars. Thank you!
