I live in a smaller area (Corning,NY). When campfire rolled out I found out there was a group in my area. We have promoted and grown the group to almost 220 people now.
Here is the problem- the founders/moderators/admin of the group no longer are active.
Question- Is there any way to become an admin of the group? I’d like to plan some meet-ups, etc.
Hey there! Just letting you know that since this is a forum restricted to Wayfarer subjects, it’s very unlikely we’re going to be able to help with your Campfire request. Sorry.
I know this info is for PoGo, but you may want to try contacting the Community Ambos program. In my community, our community ambos are the ones that create events for the group, send out invites, etc. Their email address is communityambassadors@nianticlabs.com, and they note on the page below that they welcome any questions.

Unfortunately, only the Campfire admin can transfer ownership or enable mods/other permissions to members of the group. I assume you’ve attempted to reach out to the group owner via Campfire and your local Discord server, and have not had any success from that avenue.
I would start from scratch and make a new Campfire group. You will need a minimum amount of people in the new group for it to appear on the map and be discoverable by other people. The abandoned group does seem abandoned–advertising the new group in the old one (and stating your intentions) should help get the new group going.
As a Community Ambassador myself, I don’t see how contacting the Community Ambassador program will be able to assist in this situation, as the abandoned Campfire group does not have a Community Ambassador itself. However, I would encourage you to look into becoming a Community Ambassador for your community! It seems like you have the gung-ho and hopefully can rekindle enthusiasm in your community for meetups.
