Abusive wayfarer

I love when you speak nerdish, but sadly understand less than I would like.
Is that a pro or con argument for editing?

 I think that when new scans are similar enough to old scans, so they can all be meshed together - Niantic should allow the name change. At least on appeal.

In fact, I think they’re counterproductive to insist that perfectly good scans are deleted with the old wayspot.

Sometimes, the only scans on a Wayspot are of the current thing. But technically, Niantic wants those deleted.

(I speak in scans not because it’s the most important thing to me - but because it’s what 's important to Niantic.)

Understood!
Thanks

Thank you. I misread your original post as saying they had been quite clear. :woman_facepalming:

Maybe I’ll get a reduced sentence :smiling_face_with_tear:

Further clarification -

I think Niantic wants delete-and-replace (of a thing that has changed) because they think old scans won’t match the current object.

But I think they are wrong in assuming they won’t match.

Is it possible, that they’re not wrong, but theire progress on it isn’t high enough at this point?
I want to say, that in case of a mural the rule is pretty easy to follow, but a building could be harder to put in a rule which works everytime everywhere.

The building of a pub stays. Only the name changes → on first sight everything is fine.
The building of a church stays. The confession inside changes → everything is fine? For a scan maybe
The building of a cafĂ© stays. Inside is now a pharmacy. → For a scan everything is fine?

Maybe it is not so easy :woman_shrugging:t2:

New thought (I’m sorry ).
Could it be, that they need the stamp for an ending object to archivate the time slice accurate? Maybe there is not only THE database in Lightship and they could reconstruct the world of 15.11.2023 (or what ever date) with theire archivated maps.

@AliceWonder1511 Good thoughts! We don’t really know what they’re doing, especially with scans.

This is yet another situation where some basic clarity and communication from the team would go such a long way.
We can only speculate until they directly tell us what and why they request things done in certain ways, until then we will remain confused and frustrated with things that just don’t seem logical.
It really comes across as unprofessional and shortsighted of them.
