Addressing Nomination Rejections

[Mod Note] This chain of comments was separated out to a unique Topic. This is why it appears to be a conversation already in progress. [/Mod Note]

it’s in a corner of gus bock park, 50 yards away is a barbeque area and a shelter. next to that is a small playground. it’s IN A PARK. it is solar powered. I goes off once a week at 10am for testing. you don’t have a siren that goes off where you live for inclement weather?

ON this page I cannot find my submissions

You can access your nominations above. Any information contained may give us specific points to improve. Which is why it is essential to see the nominations as presented.

If you have difficulty with creating a separate post, it may be within reach for me to separate this discussion into a dedicated thread for your concern. So as to keep this thread relevant only to the original poster’s query.

Just for clarity, only you can access your nominations from that link. People screenshot the actual nominations including photos, text, and location if they wish to discuss it in this forum.

I have created a separate thread to address your queries @jerkboys . Please provide the screenshots of nominations here.

for future references, the option to make a new topic is at the right corner for pc users.

It seems @jerkboys is frustrated about submitting a weather siren and having it rejected. That is a correct rejection. Weather sirens do not meet any of the criteria to be a wayspot:

  • A great place to socialize? No
  • A great place to exercise? No
  • A great place to explore? No

This is just standard warning equipment. It is vital for the safety of the community but it is no more eligible than a fire alarm would be.

These all sound like great nominations! Have they been submitted?

No, we get alerts on our phones here.

We still do have tornado sirens - test them every Wednesday at noon. But that still doesn’t make them a good wayspot. They’re like a combination fire alarm and electrical pole.

We also still have weather sirens, and they get tested in my city every 1st Wednesday of each month at 1pm (so tomorrow, they’ll be going off). The city will also let us know when other testing will be taking place. I live close to one, on the grounds of an apartment building, and have never once thought about submitting it as a Wayspot, as it doesn’t meet criteria.

My rural hometown also has these, and they are used for more than use weather. Because some may not know about a fire that’s happening in the country, and most fire departments are volunteer, they sound the sirens when there is a fire out in the country.

These are more infrastructure than anything else. They are put in to alert citizens to extreme events, whether it be weather, a fire, or something else. Similar to how a street light safely lights up streets so one does not have to be walking or driving in the dark, sirens are part of the safety system in an area to help alert about something unsafe coming (and yes, tornadoes can come on quite quickly).

i meant here in Cary, not here in the US. i should have clarified. there is a horn that gets tested every now and again at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Reactor nearby and we do get alerts about that. IDK what that siren actually looks like, but I don’t see any portals at the facility. There is a nearby park that does have portals.

LOL. I remember one of the first coals that I posted outside of my local area was a submission for a nuclear power plant. Please don’t play near the nuclear power plant.

and a clock tower just shows the time.

solar powered, the horn is about 36" long. it’s something else to watch it rotate while sounding. it’s about 3 stories up in the air, much like our clock tower, which does not spin.

the shelter is a pokestop. the barbeques are not. the siren is close to an unused horeshoe pit.

it’s in a park, southern corner. can you exercise near it? people walk by all the time.
explore? I think it’s unique to watch it rotate while sounding. it’s as standard as a town square clock tower.
it it not vital for the safety of the community, it’s more like a relic. it only goes off for testing.

one time there was about 30 of us at a church waiting for a raid to begin, and got chased off the sidewalk because of fear.
No one would think twice about people gathering in a park near a weather siren.

it is mounted on a wooden pole, similar to electric poles.
“doesn’t make them a good wayspot” is subjective. I can think of many pokestops that are on private property yet still exist.
this is in a park.

I think you are missing the point about the acceptance criteria Niantic Wayfarer

Must meet at least one of the three eligibility criteria

  • A great place for exploration
  • A great place for exercise
  • A great place to be social with others

This siren was not placed for any of these purposes. Just because you can “exercise near it” does not make it a great place for exercise. Just because you enjoy watching it “rotate while sounding” does not make it a great place for exploration. If the only reason for people to gather around it is if it is a game location, then it isn’t a great place for being social.

I’m going to build a Wind Farm outside my front yard, just to get a Pokestop and say it’s a great place to explore. I think I can nail it!
