Maybe your 9 year old would enjoy the hunt for eligible things to submit? I certainly enjoy wayfarer as part of a walk to play Go. You could submit together, I’m sure they would find it fun like a treasure hunt (that’s how it feels for me anyway!)
I can see a stop for the Edgewater Dock - it looks like a lovely view.
Are any of the other piers / docks along there accessible?
Edgewater Dock says it belongs to an HOA - is that area therefore communal space? Could it be another place for the HOS to have a picnic area or information sign about nature along the water edge. Perhaps a community project to create a bug hotel ?
I think it would be possible to have another wayspot for the sailing club itself.
The dock I think is blocked off and the access road to it is off a busy main road. The map shows a path between two house but I have never seen a path for it. As far as I know it’s not for public use.
If you are able to see the main community gathering is the gazebo at the front of the neighborhood, has a gazebo, playground, and currently burnt down gas station. Most of the neighborhood is filled with houses that makes it tough to find another nice spot for a poke stop. Why I try submitting the clean after your pet sign since most people in my neighborhood walk down there since it is only other place no houses are. Kids usually hangout there to play in the cul de sac since few cars come through.
I can probably get a picnic table out there since one used to be there.
It’s fine in my neighborhood but all the stops are in one spot. Kind of pointless exploring one spot. Routes usually take you to other stops to walk around.
You can create an out-and-back route.
Routes are a Pokémon GO feature and not linked to Wayfarer but as said, you can create a Route using only one PokéStop and can make it go by other interesting places in the community, even if those interesting places cannot be Wayspots.
Ok. Talking to HOA and getting a replacement picnic table sounds good a little free library there too starts to turn it into a focal point …..and that must be good for the community.
Wayfarer is supposed to reflect reality. In residential area which consist of private residential property, sometimes its hard to find eligible things. You may need to find closest gathering spot such as park, restaurant, trail, religious place, etc.
I’ve walked my neighborhood with her hundreds of times. It’s a small to mid size neighborhood. There is 3 safe places for kids to play. The entrance which has 3 stops(apparently today they removed the gym), a small medium dividing a road that has a some shrubbery and the cul de sac area that I tried to submit. I just found a path that I thought was going to someone’s backyard goes to a boat dock, but I wouldn’t want my kids play over there alone.
Use the basketball goal ,
Community Basketball Hoop
A publicly accessible outdoor basketball goal used by local residents for recreation, exercise, and casual games. This spot encourages physical activity and social interaction for people of all ages.
I’m not American so I don’t know what a small to mid sized neighborhood would be really for you. Probably larger than the housing estates we have in the UK at a guess!
The boat dock you described sounds like an eligible item, and even if your daughter doesn’t benefit, maybe someone else can? So I would submit it anyway. You mentioned you recently lost a gym? If another didnt already pop up, you’d need to submit something new to enable a replacement to appear. The boat dock could help with that.
You make it sound like the place you live is pretty unsafe if you don’t want your daughter to walk around much, so honestly it feels like it would be better to focus on places you 2 visit instead. Like, it doesn’t feel like you particularly want her playing in your area? Or maybe only your road is okay? Sadly wayfarer doesn’t work like that and needs to have physical things present that are good to exercise, socialise or explore.
Sorry we cant help more but no one will encourage you to submit a dog poo bin, that’s just disgusting and no one wants to hang around it!! So its kind of obvious its a bad nomination and I think you probably know that and it’s just a bit of desperation? I would love a stop at home or on my road too but I haven’t submitted any bins, I just walk to somewhere where I was able to submit eligible things
It’s great that you walk the neighbourhood together. It was my kids that got me hooked ![]()
From my U.K. perspective it does sound like an underlying problem is urban planning that has created housing for families with little commitment to providing easily accessible play space for children.
It’s routine in new build areas in the U.K. for planning to insist on Local Area Play (LAP). Some are really good in terms of equipment some are pathetic. But at least they do provide a space for kids to play.
HOA system is something I’m just not familiar with, and I have seen many posts here about trying to improve their local space by going through the HOA. make the most of the communal space you have.
Good luck
Hello and Welcome @LAF97
The hoop that is currently there is of the type that is temporary as it is on wheels.
If a permanent one could be installed tgat would be great.
Or even if the area had some markings that made the court look permanent it might be possible. Agree the current setup doesn’t look permanent enough for wayfarer purposes.
This basketball goal is not permanent and is not eligible.
Oops see that was already said. I hope you are not submitting and accepting these yourself.
Not that the neighborhood is completely unsafe it’s just full of houses with limited recreational areas. A boat dock isn’t a place for kids to hangout though. I’ll submit the basketball hoop and see what happens.
A boat dock sounds like a place for exploration? Presumably its a viewpoint for the area and a place where leisure boats would pull up, so it’s likely to meet criteria even if your family don’t personally use it.
As we mentioned this basketball hoop isnt permanent so isn’t eligible and I wouldn’t expect it to be approved.
Weird is the gym at our fountain entrance was taken away yesterday and a poke stop at two main road intersection a block away is now a gym.
Was the fountain just a pond aerator? Those were accepted way back in the early days of the game, but are specifically clarified as not eligible now:
When something like this comes to the attention of Niantic staff, they tend to remove them.
if the threshold is still met, a new pokestop will become a gym when a gym is removed. you can read about this mechanic here: https://pokemongohub.net/post/article/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
