Leon’s Donuts
Here is one of the better stand alone donut shops in Little Rock.
Donut shops and popular restaurants such as this are typically eligible. I am not aware of any school or adult oriented business that would cause this to be ineligible. This used to be Shipleys Donuts before becoming a stand alone store.
This is north set of doors for Leon’s Donuts. I am aware that Sims-Bar-B-Q is another Wayspot to the south on John Barrow Road, Little Rock, Arkansas between this location and Casey’s General Store. This used to be a Shiplys Donuts (chain). After it became a standalone donut shop, I nominated it on Christmas Day 2024. That is why the store is closed. I read most of the reviews on Google Maps and gave this business (one of the few that is not part of chain) good marks. I tried to paraphrase those to describe those in the description without trying to advertise since I have no affiliation with the business. What things should I to if I try to nominate this again to get a better chance of having the nomination accepted? i know this might be accepted but not make a game since it is so close to another Wayspot. I enjoy Ingress too. That is why I chose the north doors. If a Portal is created, that works. If not, that is at least a successful nomination even if it makes no game. I can still appeal this but am unsure if I wish to do that. I have use of appeals when the not applied edit appears in my Contributions.
What criteria do you think this meets and why? The closedt Criteria i see this could potentially meet is great poace to be social, but i dont see how you can prove that for a place that is only a month old, being a stand alone donut shop alone doesnt fulfill this.
I know I am grasping but does this meet the criteria of being a coffee shop? The location before the name change has been there since at least the '80s. Some mention breakfast in the reviews. However, I know different people have different ideas about what is considered breakfast.
Being a coffee shop isnt a criteria, its an example of something that can be a great place to socialize, but you still have to proof how your specific nomination achieves that.
Oh, that explains. I don’t count sponsored Starbucks locations.
Just to be clear, im not saying your nomination isnt eligible, it might very well be, but you would need to provide that information that would prove its a great place to socialize.
Yeah, i like places like this. But as Roli said, you need to explain what criteria it meets. Your supplemental kinda focuses on what it is NOT. That isnt helpful.
Also, very good work not getting your reflection in that photo. I see a tiny part of you, but its not identifiable. You’re standing exactly where you need to be for photos like this.
I have submitted quite a few cafes and i always emphasize how they are a great place to meet up with friends to hang out and catch up with each other. But you should definitely go in to check the place out before you make that argument. Maybe the people working there are not friendly to people wanting to linger over coffee and donuts. In that case, it wouldn’t meet the socialize criterion.
I understand what I did and didn’t do. Before I nominate again if I do, I will walk there for breakfast to decide for myself if that should be nominated again. I haven’t been inside since the name changed. If I nominate again, I will focus on the reasons why that is eligible. If I don’t nominate again, I will have decided that is unlikely to be accepted and look for other places again that are more likely to be accepted. Being on foot makes that difficult.
I would also advise you to crop out some of the bottom concrete in the photo. If you used a square format, that would frame it nicely.
More like this
That is a really tricky one to take a photo of without getting an unwanted reflection. I find that trying to more or less center the sign is a good Wayspot photo for recognition. Usually when there is a lot of glass, I use the trick Roli taught me of getting low and aiming high. (Harder to do the older I get.)
Another option I also use is an artistic angle to avoid reflection. But be sure the horizon is level if you use this option so people don’t reject for orientation.
I try to put my most convincing information about the place in the description. Then any proof of my statements or help to verify location in the supporting. Along with stating which criteria I believe the nomination meets.
I think bars and coffee shops should all be eligible. They’re not and never a generic business; they don’t sell dishes, gift items, or whatever else. A bar is a place where you go to have breakfast, drink a coffee, or also a glass of water. You exchange words with the bartender and with the person next to you. It’s really a natural place to socialize. And this is true all over the world. I travel a lot, and it’s the same everywhere.
Meanwhile, post offices get accepted. But who socializes in a post office? Instead, in a bar, people socialize, and it’s an excellent meeting point for all ages. For me it should always be accepted without any proof because this is a fact until proven otherwise.
They are eligible. You must convince that they are something that should be accepted. There is a difference between a place you can get a coffee and a GREAT place to do so.
I hope my photo suggestions help if you decide to resubmit. “Wayfarer critieria” indicates your original nomination was rejected by the ML (machine learning ai) model. I think it will be able to detect that this is a potentially eligible nomination if the focus of the main photo is the sign rather than doors.
Actually, you can socialize even in a place where the coffee is terrible, but it’s the only one in the area. What I mean is that the norm is that you can socialize in a coffee bar, while it’s an exception if you can’t (but in such cases, the bar usually doesn’t last long and closes permanently soon after). So, they should be accepted without me having to prove that the coffee is good or that the bartender is friendly and cordial.
I’m not sure if I made myself clear, but socializing is an inherent part of this type of establishment. If it weren’t, the place would shut down because it’s never just a generic business where you buy something and leave
I often think people confuse Niantic with Yelp.
Yelp wants every restaurant that exists.
Niantic only wants restaurants that are GREAT places to socialize. Or has artwork to explore.
this is the kind of thing you need to emphasize in your nomination. that this coffee shop has value for the community. i do not disagree with you. i am just trying to help you make an easy to accept nomination.
I would actually say it should be the opposite.
In the guides it says places to socialize and this should be the main focus. Whether they make good food or good coffee is something other social networks take care of.
and then post offices are accepted. Now tell me who socializes in a post office? My grandmother and my great-great-grandmother who receive their pension in cash perhaps?
This it’s so crazy!
That’s exactly what I was saying.
Please move away from comparing to other poi. Focus proving on why your nomination meets this condition from Niantic Wayfarer
Must meet at least one of the three eligibility criteria
- A great place for exploration
- A great place for exercise
- A great place to be social with others
fwiw, Niantic gives this example here: Niantic Wayfarer
- Favorite coffee shops
Notice the word “favorite” here.
At this point, I don’t think I can say anything else to help. Good luck if you resubmit.
Guidelines say it should be a great place to socialize, not just a place where socializing happens or could happen.
