Appeal for Portal Removal

Subject: Appeal for Removed Portal – (Bank im Kornfeld, 50.8429596, 12.8646402)

Dear Niantic Support Team,

I recently noticed that a portal at the coordinates (Bank im Kornfeld, 50.8429596, 12.8646402) has been removed from Ingress. I would like to kindly request a review of this decision, as I believe the portal meets all the necessary criteria for inclusion in the game.

The portal was:
• Located in a publicly accessible area
• Not causing any obstruction or disturbance to the surroundings
• A relevant and valid point of interest for the community

Could you please provide clarification on why it was removed? Additionally, I would appreciate a reconsideration of this decision if there were no significant issues with its location.

Thank you for your time and support. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Vitalii (bestiKO)

***Mod Edit to remove references to gameplay which are not relevant.

It would support your appeal if you can provide geo-tagged images of the object to show it is still there.

The coordinates are in the middle of a farm field. This is likely the reason - private farmland. Even if the POI is still there, it seems generally ineligible.

From Google
There are tracks across this area that appear to be publically accessible - no barriers in the way. The land to the north appears to be cultivated hence cornfield but the land to south not. The location is not actually in a cornfield. So it is unclear what the status is.
I think current photos and perhaps a scaniverse splat could show the location more clearly along with evidence about access.

The land to the south is also clearly cultivated. You can see the rows and tracks. It just seems to have a green crop in it at the time of the photo.

Not if you look at street view of the nearest points.

2 different view points 2 years apart.
In the second you can see there is no barrier to walking straight ahead towards the distant tree.
I am keeping an open mind about this as I don’t see anything conclusive and I am not familiar with access in Germane. I want to see what evidence can be produced locally.

Sure, local evidence that it’s public is critical, but it still clearly an agricultural field to me.

And I took these in the morning.

Ok so I think the issue is not so much the location ( from my perspective and UK experience) but that it is a very ordinary bench. You would need to demonstrate that this is something special.

No, I find a different explanation for this. If the other faction cannot reach it by car, then the portal is considered unsuitable. There are many such portals in every city (just a bench).

Gameplay by another team does not affect whether or not a wayspot should be kept/restored.
There are many objects that are wayspots that by todays criteria should not be. Ordinary benches can be found in the game and they would not be accepted today.

A quick tip for how the forum works: every picture you upload is not instant, you need to wait a moment for it to upload. It’s not that obviously presented with a progress bar unfortunately. If you post before completing the upload, your upload will be aborted like here.

Your statement that many areas in Germany have such benches as Wayspots would surprise me a lot because, I’ve been through half the country and there weren’t many such wayspots.
Rules and clarifications have also changed over time so it may be that the examples you have seen should never have been accepted in the first place.

Thanks for the appeal, @bestiKO. We have taken another look but stand by our decision to retire this Wayspot.
