A portal at the (approximate) coordinates (Overlook nature trail footbridge, 41.562875,-74.453654) has been removed from Ingress. I would like to request a review of this decision, as I believe the portal meets all the necessary criteria for inclusion in the game.
The portal was:
• Located in a publicly accessible area
• Not causing any obstruction or disturbance to the surroundings
• A relevant and valid point of interest for the community
I submitted photos and portal scans at 3:24pm on 1/13/25 of the Overlook footbridge portal. At 2:14pm on 1/15/25 I opened ingress to find that it had been removed. There was another portal nomination near the area that was accepted a few months after the Overlook footbridge, but was not in game. That nomination has now been added in game; while the Overlook footbridge portal (that was there first) has been removed.
Could you please provide clarification on why it was removed? Additionally, I would appreciate a reconsideration of this decision since there were no significant issues with its location.
I had a look at this location on maps, and can advise that you will need to provide some evidence to the team that this actually exists here. I don’t see any sign of a trail on street or satellite view, and the name of the nearby portal is not very confidence inspiring, either:
It looks to be all private residential and possibly some private farm land, but there doesn’t seem to be any indication of official trails or parks in the area. Do you have evidence that this is not private residential property?
That’s where the portal was but not where it is exactly. That was an approximate location since the portal isn’t there to copy the link. Somehow the locations must’ve been mixed up during submission. The portal you posted above is in location of where the footbridge is. The footbridge portal was where the portal you posted is located. I didn’t know how to go about switching them since a location edit only allows a certain distance.
The red pin is the location you gave. I included the nearby portal for reference.
You don’t need to convince me it is there, but you will need to convince the team that not only is the bridge there, but that a trail exists at all. They will have had evidence that it does not exist, or a request from a property owner to remove it.
Game screenshots do not prove it is there in real life, fyi.
(I only make comments on appeals to help people present their best case.)
On zoning maps it’s marked as public property. It’s hard to see on Google street view due to the limited photos and the dense tree line. In game it shows the trails but not on intel maps. They spread throughout the woods to a few different spots.
