There was not this many earlier for my original report, but I’m hoping this is best way to go forward.
I see these in my area as well. Honestly not sure if it’s ok or not as disc courses do double as a hiking area in Washington. And trail markers and signage are valid poke-stops.
Here is the text of the clarification on Disc Golf courses:
It is very clear that there should only be one for the entire course. Not individual holes.
People who actually play disc golf tell me that it is not safe for other people to be wandering around where they are throwing.
If there are markers that are actually meant to be followed as a trail, that is not a wise layout by whoever installed that. But if there is evidence that they are marking a trail meant to be followed even by non-golfers, that could make them eligible as trail markers.
For reference I play disc golf in Washington. Yeah I see there policy now and so I will start reporting them lol.
For the courses I’ve been on where it’s semi a trail and semi a disc golf course, it’s not like people are walking in the disc golf course itself but the trail just splits off for each hole. It’s really dumb to put the chain holes as the end point, like as they point out, but the markers themselves are always safe places to be (it would be bad design if they weren’t as others playing just disc golf wouldnt be lining up there).
And the disc courses here tend to exist in a public park generally. So everyone is more or less coexisting already. And it’s not any more or less dangerous with Pokémon go in the mix cause little kids are stupid. And we just have a lot of trees which act as physical barriers in our parks.
Yeah, but imagine a Pokemon Go Community Ambassador taking a group of 100 people through the disc golf course on a raid day, where crowds are now standing at individual baskets as they go from gym to gym.
Tbf Pokémon go stops never have this in mind. Like imagine doing that and visiting every public library. Every post office. There are so many examples where 100 people for a single Pokémon go stop wouldn’t work. Community ambassadors always exercise discretion lol. And in the park that I’m thinking of it would actually be fine because again the way it is designed allows for a trail to run through the course to each stop or golf starting marker. There are a few disc courses where that couldn’t work. But if this was ever the criteria then public libraries, government buildings, murals on busy streets, so many things wouldn’t be safe.
You are unlikely to be hit on the head by a flying Library Book.
If there are signs saying that there is a walking trail then it could be eligible.
If you are saying that people could walk the course without playing the game then it is not a walking trail, its a Disc Golf Course and criteria is clear that it is 1 per course.
My point wasn’t that disc golfing should have a stop at each hole. Because I respect Niantics decision. And it also aligns with the consensus that multiple sport fields in the same stadium/area should only get one pokestop.
Just that the reasoning of would it be ok if a 100 people showed up for a community ambassador event was not an appropriate metric to use for appraising a pokestop.
And the start point are safe at disc golfing places. Because they literally have to be. The holes themselves aren’t. I understand that you have no experience disc golfing but it’s actually safer than a baseball and soccer field as those sports there are incentives, strategies and rules for players to explicitly try to get the ball to go out of bounds.
Personally I think incorrect reasoning is much more important to correct than incorrect conclusions because incorrect reasonings often leads to a larger magnitude of incorrect decisions.
Mod Edit to clarify the type of event and to remove an inappropriate phrases
This is 1 that I agree but I have seen many instances where Niantic has gone against this. Multiple football fields in the same area of the same park get a wayspot each. I don’t make the rules, just try to stick my them.
Obviously, this will depend on the layout and the skill of the players, people playing Disc Golf will be totally aware to watch for “stray shots”, people playing PoGo are less likely.
That is why there should be no encouragement to go onto the field of play, plus it’s much easier to keep an eye on 1 ball per game than 1 disc per player.
This makes some sort of sense but there are no “incorrect reasoning” or “incorrect conclusions”. Criteria states 1 per course and that is was the OP is trying to get sorted.
