Appeal of a rejected Request to Remove Wayspot

When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:

  • Wayspot Title: Woodvale Sculpture
  • Location (lat/lon): 31.79849° S, 115.79446° E
  • City: Woodvale
  • Country: Australia
  • Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):
  • Additional Information (if any):

“Woodvale Sculpture” is in fact the artwork “Mute Figure #11 (The Tide to the Stars and Back Again)” by Paul Kaptein. This artwork was commissioned by and is owned by the City of Joondalup. Please refer to the following links as evidence of this fact - Mute Figure #11 (the tide to the stars and back again) from the collection of City of Joondalup | Artwork Archive AND Paul KapteinWork. The artwork is currently on display at the Woodvale Library (which is operated by the City of Joondalup)

The location for the existing wayspot “Woodvale Sculpture” is incorrectly pinned in the frozen food section of a grocery store (Woolworths). The correct location for this artwork is at the Woodvale Library (Co-Ordinates : 31.79794° S, 115.79516° E) which is some 200 metres away from the existing wayspot location .

In additional, the existing wayspot description “Sculpture in the lobby of Woodvale Shopping Centre” is deceptive and misleading as no such lobby exists and the artwork is on display at the Woodvale Library. Refer - https://www.australia-shoppings.com/malls-centres/western-australia/woodvale/woodvale-boulevard.

This is an invalid wayspot as the nominated object does not exist at the pinned location and I respectfully request that you kindly review your previous decision not to remove this wayspot.

Sounds like the Waypoint needs a location adjustment rather than deletion.

You can use the help chat bubble on the wayfarer webpages to make the move to the correct location and it allows you to attach the evidence you have submitted here.

Besides the pinned location, this wayspot requires significant changes to be made to correct the misleading wayspot description and title. I thought that any such changes would be treated as abuse by Wayfarer.

What I have perhaps left unsaid… Based upon the inaccurate wayspot description AND the 200m distance between the pinned and actual wayspot locations, it could be argued that the pinned location has been deliberately set at the wrong location for the sole purpose of creating a new wayspot. At the actual location (Woodvale Library) of the artwork, the close proximity of several existing wayspots would prevent any newly approved wayspot from appearing in the game.

The wayfarer Team will then investigate.

Is everybody satisfied with the ‘process’ ‘working’ this way? Any attempt to edit the title, description, and location would likely end in frustration, failure, and a good possibility of an ‘abuse’ charge.

When an explorer discovers that there is no object near a pinned Wayspot, shouldn’t they be able to report this simple fact?

I think the initial report needs to open up a dialog where proof or confirmation can be agreed upon and met. If there is a road map of various options the explorer can take these should be clearly explained all in one place.

Why can’t Niantic accept information and build upon it?

“Thank you for your report. We will be retiring the Wayspot from the supermarket. Is there any chance the real object might exist nearby?”

Thanks for the appeal, @BunchOfCarrots. We appreciate your patience as we reviewed the location in question. We have already moved the referenced Wayspot to the correct location. You should see the changes reflected soon.
