Appeal rejected despite correct use of game terms?

I submitted this Pokemon Go nomination and it got rejected. I appealed based on feedback that this was most likely rejected by a ML bot and I should appeal.

I made sure to include in my appeal this importance of this space in the community. This is what I said in my appeal:

I am submitting an appeal for this location because it meets the Wayspot criteria for being a great place to be social with others. We are a community hub and safe space for people who love anime and kawaii culture. We especially focused on making a safe space for women and LGBTQ+ folks who often don’t have a safe space in nerdy fandoms. We are also an official Play! Pokémon League location and people gather here to play both Pokémon TCG and Pokémon GO Tournaments! Here are some links that describe the importance this store is in the local community as we’ve cultivated a sense of safety and belonging for many:

Doki Doki Kawaii Shop Brings Anime, Manga, Stationery, and All Things Cute to Lakewood | Cleveland | Cleveland Scene

This is the rejection I received:

Does this appeal make sense? Why is this an unacceptable game term use in this context? Thank you so much for the help!

@NianticAaron the appeal reviewers got this wrong. This is the one case in which Pokemon references are eligible as it just lists events hosted there. This space appears to be very important to the community and would be a great Wayspot!

When you submit a stop, you do not get to choose which game it appears in, even if you submit it through a specific game’s submission process. It might go to Pokemon Go, but it can also be in any other existing or future game as well.

The stops should have neutral, non-game descriptions so that it can appear in all Niantic games.

The description is game neutral.

Hosting Play Pokemon tournaments isn’t game specific, its just a description of the events held at the shop. Therefore the description is accurate and relevent regardless of the game the waypoint appears in

I’d recommend a resubmit with the description changed from:
“It is also an oficial Play! Pokemon League location that holds Pokemon TCG and Go League tournaments!”
→ to →
“The store also hosts events and tournaments for popular video games and trading card games.”

It’s a minor change for a user or player, but it is important for the developers and lawyers.

This place looks really cool!!
Having attended some tournaments, omg, a space where it’s not necessarily going to be 95%+ male sounds very cool!

No, the description is better as-is.

Just FYI, the professor in charge of the League should ha e a connection to PGO to get an official stop added here. You dont need to go through Wayfarer if this is an official locstion for Play! Pokemon events.

This is a much cooler nomination than some generic sponsored pokething & it could theoretically also appear in Ingress. I know I’d get something like this accepted first (in fact, I’ve successfully nominated a different game store that is also a League location, though it already had a wonky sponsored thing that keeps bouncing around to different locations near the store).

Agreed! But, this location is still not eligible to go live. A Wayspot at this location was removed in the past at the request of the property owner.

The op is the property owner from discussion on WDD - @dokidokiami did you see this? Can y’all start a DM?

@dokidokiami is the property owner and requested that the old location the store moved from get removed, so it seems there’s been some misunderstanding from Niantic here.

There is no misunderstanding. There was a Wayspot connected to the same location which was removed at the request of the property owner.

I do want to thank you for the response. They would never have known this without it. Please start a direct message with the OP.

I mean, it sounds like the property has changed owners. That happens and there should be a way for the new property owner to prove it. Unless the “property owner” is the person/corp who owns the whole shopping center.

We had that happen back near me in 2017. They removed all the POI at the whole shopping center because it was a hang-out for PGOers.

Why did the appeal not state this? It would make more sense if the appeal stated the reason why it was not approved, rather than an incorrect reason. Then the submitter would understand and know what to do next.

I have acknowledged this part.

Absolutely you did, and I think there had been some stuff going on trying to get this to show up in Pokemon Go that I had been unaware of when I championed this nomination. I do think this would be a great Wayspot but did not have all the facts. Thank you for recognizing that the reason given was wrong.

@NianticAaron

I am the owner of this location. I contacted Niantic to remove the location from Ingress because we moved locations. This nomination is for our NEW location. Can you contact me through DM to work resolve this confusion?
