Hello, wanted to seek some advice for this nomination. It gets auto rejected by AI and also got rejected by appeal even after providing some background about the historic architecture and that such spiral staircases are no longer found in Singapore public housing. Understand that it may look like a regular spiral staircase but this has historical value and is not “a typical staircase found in the region”. Wanted to check if theres any chance to get this nominated? I’m asked to resubmit with evidence but I know it will most definitely be rejected by AI.
I suspect the appeal reviewers stick with the initial decision unless there is an obvious mistake. Since local reviewers rejected this as not interesting/eligible, and it is a judgement call (not obvious either way as a non-local to reject or accept), it makes sense that the appeal reviewer stuck with the local decision.
I think it is worth retrying the submission if this is indeed unique, even though it is “just” a staircase, because unique architecture is eligible.
If you resubmit, include the information from your appeal in your submission. Include the links in the supporting and expand on your brief description. Brief descriptions are valid, but in this case, you clearly need more to sell the submission.
Thanks for your reply, will try to resubmit with the links. However, this never made it to the community voting. It was initially auto rejected by ai in <24h
Was wondering if i resubmit, would it get rejected by ai again?
You need a different photo if it was rejected by AI. It appears that once a submission has been rejected by AI, that photo will be auto-rejected even if the other submission details are changed.
However, I can’t easily imagine why this photo got rejected by AI or what you could do that would give this submission a chance with human reviewers,
Thanks for the suggestions, will try to take a different angle with the surroundings cropped out and hope it makes it pass the ai. A bit disappointing that the appeal wasn’t taken seriously
Hello and welcome @Jsquaree88
To me this is one that could go either way. In my view you are going have to work hard to get beyond the “ it’s a staircase” reaction.
Just because an appeal ( or even a community vote if it comes to that) goes against you it doesn’t mean it wasn’t taken seriously.
It may well go down better with local reviewers who may understand context more readily, so a resubmission seems a reasonable route to take.
I agree some different tries at a main picture.
I would also try to use the new web submission method where you can have up to 5 supporting images. So different angles. Become possible and images from some of your evidence of its value can be included less hassle for the reviewer.
Appreciate the advice and I can see where you’re coming from. However, I remain unconvinced that the appeal was taken seriously since they concluded that these are typical staircases despite providing evidence in the appeal suggesting otherwise. In fact, I don’t think they even checked the links. I understand this is a difficult nomination with the “its just a staircase” reaction for people that are unfamiliar with the area, and will probably give it another try before giving up.
Please don’t get too hung up on the appeal rejection text. Once the appeal reviewer has made a decision, they have to produce an explanation - this is most commonly done by picking a standard template and dropping in a label such as “standard unique art”, “ordinary bridge” or “typical staircase”. This label and template doesn’t mean they didn’t review properly, it’s just a time-saver.
