Hi,
I’m feeling a bit at a loss because of a recently rejected appeal - I think it was initially rejected by the AI as it happened quickly without moving to “In Voting”, and so I thought having this looked at in an appeal was worth it.
The details of the nomination:
The appeal rejection reason especially stings as the reviewer states simply “it is an ordinary building which has no significance.”. While at first it may look so, I have provided a quite detailed description (in Czech) and supporting information (in English) why that is definitely not so. And I have provided the supporting Wiki link several times. Now, I know that it’s not in English, but using the basic built-in translation tool in Firefox, I get:
Now, I would like to ask how this is an “ordinary building with no significance”? It towers above the surrounding buildings, but OK, that’s not enough on its own. There is a street named after it next to it “Za Vodojemem”, but OK, not enough. It’s an architectonically unique building, the only of its kind in Czechia… but most importantly, there is a humongous water reservoir for the surrounding area above the final floor of flats? Is that common anywhere? Do flat blocks usually come with water reservoirs atop the habitable part? This is the only time I’ve heard of it.
Sorry if this came across a little bitter, but I cannot comprehend how one would come to this conclusion while looking at the supporting info.
Can you please review this appeal decision, and if you agree with the rejection, explain to me how exactly this is an “ordinary building with no significance”? Thank you.
I wouldn’t bother with appeals on this one. Since it was rejected without going into voting, it was rejected by the automated system, which disliked either your main photo or your title. In this case, it’s very likely the photo that caused the rejection. The system just “saw” this as a regular building. So I would experminet with different photos and perhaps cropping it to just the water reservoir part. Also, make sure to provide evidence that it is truly what you say it is. You have a good chance to get this accepted. If you have Discord, I could add you to the local Wayfarer community, where locals can give you advice, I know a couple people who live quite close to you.
Alright, the system may have seen it as a regular building, but the appeal is reviewed by a person, right? So… I would have expected them to read the Wiki, for example? And then you see it’s not a regular building
Yes, the appeals should be reviewed by a person. But I [personally] doubt they would read Wikipedia or even understand this kind of thing. Your best option is to improve the nomination so that it is not automatically rejected and that your local reviewers will understand it. Of course you could also try appealing it again (after another failed submission) and maybe another appeal reviewer would be more appreciative.
Hey, so I have a degree in Building Construction and I love finding interesting examples of architecture. Neither your submission nor your appeal statement would convince me that this is any kind of unique building. Honestly, looking at the Wikipedia page doesn’t really inspire me. Is there any kind of article that explains how the design of the water delivery system inspired other buildings or explaining how this building is an achievement? Without understanding the context of how this impacted architectural styles or technologies, it’s just “meh” for me.
Frankly…tower apartment building with water tank doesnt really strike as sometime unique. Honestly, i think majority of building have water tank on top of the building. So u nd to highlight whats unique about this building.
Well, it’s a 1000 cubic metre (or 260 thousand gallons) reservoir of water to supply the surrounding housing area, so I wouldn’t imagine it’s a common or non unique thing?
Well, seeing how things are and the reviewer may not even glance at the supplemented info, it does seem like a waste. I’m not in the area anymore anyway, so I wouldn’t be able to resubmit. I thought it was worth it as it really struck me as a unique POI and I saw the AI rejection as blatantly wrong…
