When submitting a Wayspot Appeal, make sure to include as much of the following information as possible:
Wayspot Title: Octopus - Pirates’ Cove
Location (lat/lon):
City: Bluewater Shopping Centre, Kent
Country: England
Screenshot of the Rejection Email (do not include your personal information):
Additional Information (if any): My nomination was seemingly auto-rejected by the (insert profane word here) Wayfarer AI. I wanted to add a proper description when I got home because I was in the middle of a game of miniature golf. I nominated a clear photograph of the huge octopus sculpture - other features of the golf course (like the pirate ship) are already within Niantic games.
I think we can all agree, this is not a poor quality photograph. I want to be able to add a description. I did not expect my nomination to be rejected within a couple of hours of submitting it.
Hi @AScarlettSabre
Welcome to the forum
I’ve moved your topic to General Discussion because the category Wayspot Appeals is for appealing rejected removal requests or to ask for reinstating removed wayspots.
Here the community can give you feedback.
No, I don’t find this photo to be bad either, as I can clearly see the sculpture and know that it’s an octopus.
It’s possible that reviewers may have meant to choose low quality description instead of low quality photo. I will say that just having “Cove” in the description isn’t that great, as the description should describe what is being nominated. You aren’t nominating the cove, you are nominating an octopus sculpture at Pirates’ Cove, so the description should be focused on that. Here’s a couple of my nominations, not for sculptures, but I describe what is being nominated, give more info.
At this point, you have 2 options. You can either resubmit or appeal. Keep in mind that you only get 2 appeals every 20 days. Being the description could be improved upon, I would personally resubmit in this case.
However, I think you misunderstood what I wrote: The nomination went into voting seemingly as soon as I nominated it. I was wanting to edit the description later. I wanted to add a description once I got home.
My acceptance rate on Wayfarer is 65% and I have 401 accepted nominations in total. I’d like to think I know what a good nomination is.
Even if it was rejected by ML, there are improvements that can be made. Again, the description is not very good. Just putting “Cove” is like when someone nominates a local restaurant and just puts “restaurant.” We want to know more about what is being nominated, hence why we have to add a description.
I submit so many edits to make sure that the info is accurate. If I find a Wayspot with an inaccurate title/description/location/photo, I submit edit(s) to update it to the correct info. Cove doesn’t accurately describe this POI, and accuracy is important for the map. Giving this a better description will help.
Again, I don’t see an issue with the photo, just with the description, and ML makes mistakes from time to time. ML rejected a baseball field I nominated recently as a duplicate, even though I was nominated the 4th field that didn’t yet have a Wayspot, not one of the other 3 fields.
As I already stated, I was in the middle of playing a game of golf. I did not have the ability to edit the description right away. I was going to edit the description once I arrived home.
You asked for assistance, and that is what I’ve provided. It’s your choice to accept it or not.
Please remember to keep the conversation constructive and civil.
And if I had seen this while playing mini-golf and wasn’t able to nominate while playing, I would go back and nominate after I was finished playing, so I could focus on the nomination, not on something else.
I wanted to nominate a new sand volleyball court at a local park last weekend, but couldn’t as it was being used for a game. I’m keeping it in mind though, and when I can get back out there when it isn’t busy, I’m going to submit it if it hasn’t been yet by someone else.
What I was asking is if my nomination can go back on hold so that I can add a proper description, as I always do. I had explained my situation. The reason I am getting “uptight” is because I am having to repeat myself after I had already explained my situation once.
I wonder if this is an example of the recently tweaked rejection reasons not reflecting what the reviewers actually marked in review. Marking down for this photo does not make sense.
I assume you used upload later, and time spent in upload later does count towards the grace period before something will go into voting. I guess with the backlog cleared from the challenge, it entered much more quickly than normal. It should have been at least 24 hours since you put the nomination into “Upload later” queue.
I am not sure what you are wanting to accomplish with this post. You seem to know what you are doing. Just want reassurance that the photo is not bad before appealing or resubmitting it?
That’s not how the system works. Again, you can resubmit or appeal. Staff is unable to move a rejected nomination by ML back into queue. If staff granted this request, then they would have many more people doing so, trying to abuse the system.
oh you typed this while i was typing my comment. it cannot be sent back to hold. you can resubmit with the same photos. you don’t even have to go back to the site if you are within remote submit distance.
I was hoping Niantic could resend the rejection so I can add a description. Usually, there is a waiting period before things go into voting. I must confess, I had not nominated something for a few months.
Yes, ML usually makes decisions within 24 hours, but it can be sooner than that. Many photo edits may get accepted right away after submitting by ML, for example.
ML has started to reject for other reasons than just the auto process reason. I think the auto process reason is being used more now for those that do not meet criteria at all or have multiple issues, whereas if something may meet criteria, it’s giving a more in-depth rejection reason.
Well, I’ve appealed it now. Just seems their automated process is broken. Things obviously work different to how they used to last year and I was unprepared for this change.
ML has not been auto-accepting nomination since the end of November, and this is a known issue. Beling that Wayfarer was sold to Scopely, we don’t know if ML will be going over to then, or will be going to the new Spatial, which is keeping Ingress.
Much appreciated for the information. I cannot easily get back to the nomination and it is >10KM away from my current location. I appreciate 99% of players are not thinking about nominations whilst playing a game of golf and it was a bit rushed. I could have selected “upload later”.
Things are working the same. This was not an ML rejection. This went into voting faster than you expected because there was no backlog since we had just cleared it with the recently completed challenge. I hope your appeal is successful. Let us know.
The queues are filling up again, and this was submitted today, April 26th. I don’t think it would have gone into the community queue in less than 24 hours.
