Are art with actual faces allowed?

Did a search and couldn’t find clear info. Is it consider body parts? Thanks !

Yes, it’s allowed.

That doesn’t mean you’ll never get an erroneous rejection for it though.

I assume you’re referring to portraits or art with people’s faces/bodies included, like a sculpture, and they are allowed.

The faces/body parts issue is if the main photo for the submission includes people that can be identified. I just rejected a submission in review earlier today as there were several people in the photo, and their faces could easily be recognized.

Niantic used to actually have in the help section examples of ineligible photos, and I remember one had a person posing next to an art piece. A little odd that they decided to get rid of these examples.

Thanks! This is the photo in question, a collection of people drinking coffee and found in wall of coffee shop. Tia !

This one might not make it, especially if these are photos of real customers of the cafe. If they are real customers, I can see it getting rejected.

Now, if the photos were used to make another image, aka a photo mosaic, then it may be eligible.

I dont see why it would be rejected if they were real customers. Seems pretty cool to me.

Because those real customers could be identified, which is why you can’t include main photos with faces in them.

Niantic doesn’t want to be liable for something happening to one of these people because their face is featured in one of their games, and someone used the photo to bully/harass them, for example.

I also see it more as an advertisement for the cafe than art, as these are the customers that enjoy their product, and are willing to help promote it at the cafe.

I have to agree with this.

I see this as regulars agreeing to have their faces posted in their fave café or/and social media posts that they’ve agreed to, not in any other database or postings. Regardless of whether other customers will follow that etiquette.

I’d rather use its existence to prove that the business has a following.

Yes, I would rather see the business nominated before any art in the business, if it meets criteria. It puzzles me why so many nominate art in local cafes and restaurants instead of the actual place first.

They have agreed to have their faces displayed to the public. Similar to how phone numbers and other info photographed is allowed.

I never assume someone didnt nominate both.

Most don’t submit the business as they believe there is a pre-conspection towards rejecting local, non-generic businesses, so I see a lot more art submitted at these businesses than the businesses themselves. I had a few in review just today in fact.

Regardless, nothing wrong with submitting art. No reasom to prefer one over the other if theyre both potentially eligible.

Thanks all!

To clarify it’s more of a pre-manufactured picture “collage” than photos being hanged . Not sure if that helps

I cropped this picture because someone was underneath it , Tia !

I got something very similar in two pizza shops accepted. Need to swing by a couple more still.

Ok, that makes me lean back my initial assessment a bit. I thought they were neatly arranged film photos.

Might be worth asking the staff about how this came about. That and if they do allow this collage to be shown in other spaces.

wow, it would never have crossed my mind to use the “face” rejection on this. a photo of a face is not a live face in the photo. i did make note in my supporting statement on a dance school to “Please note those are banners in the windows, not people.”

I really like this and would vote for it.
