Ban because Google Maps hasn’t updated mall

Hey everyone. I just got a 30 day ban because I had submitted a pokestop at the Brea Mall. I have added a few pokestops to there over the past few months and one of the newest ones I just did gave me the 30 day ban.
This is because the Brea Mall has recently gone through an expansion that shows up as a giant field of dirt in google maps. This new area received a new store that had a cute statue in it that I believed could be a pokestop. I was then accused of misplacing this pokestop and getting a 30 day ban three weeks after the submission.
I would like some help cause I was literally just submitting a pokestop for a big statue based on that Hachiko dog from Shibuya. Please anything would help. Thank you

Have you appeal the suspension? Staff will DM you about the suspension if you cant find the email. You can ask community opinion, if you are comfortable with sharing full detail on the nominarion.

Did you receive email like this?

Hey! Yes I did receive that top one. Thank you very much I don’t know how to do community opinion but I can probably figure it out.

Also I know that Niantic appeals are notoriously unhelpful but I submitted one anyways. Within 10 minutes I got an automated message that I’ve seen many people get that basically rejects it.

I’ll figure out some more details and what else I could do

It would help to see more information. Could you share your submission with us, and the coordinates? It is possible to submit things at locations where google maps is out of date. You hopefully can overturn this with proof that you didn’t misplace anything.

I’ve personally submitted and also edited PoIs at a large leisure centre in my town which was demolished and re built several years ago, with huge changes to the site layout including moving a playground by around 50-100m. I was able to do this by taking pictures for Niantic which showed the new parts in context with the old parts which were visible on satellite. For example roads, the boundary of a park next to the site, and where the old and new buildings were. I think I had even drawn on the satellite view to highlight what I was trying to show.

My recommendation here would be to take pictures of the statue with the settings on your phone enabled that put the location data into your photo. That will show where the statue actually is. You can also take pictures or even a video to show the new layout of the mall, and where the statue is. Hopefully this will help :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hello and welcome @SlimonSmarter

I am going to move this to General Discussion area as that is where help is given to those with a suspension.
The wayfarer Team will often initiate a forum DM with you so you can discuss some details privately.

The community will be happy to provide supportive feedback if you wish to share some details.

Hello, I did some research on Brea Mall. I was surprised to find Kura Sushi and Uniqlo there.
I think the pink Hachiko statue might be a display at a store called Shibuyala, which sells Japanese imports. I compared Shibuyala’s location using the mall’s floor map, Google Maps, and satellite imagery, and the satellite image isn’t from before construction. I’ve marked the location of Shibuyala with a blue marker on both the map and the aerial photo. Did you perhaps submit the location by mistake?

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the help

Hey. Ya the Brea Mall has been going crazy with lots of good restaurants. They even have a Din Tai Fung opening up there soon. Yes, Shibuyala is the exact place where I found the pokestop submission, which they deemed originally as not distinct or permanent after I had appealed it. I always find that argument quite opinionated since they really don’t know if it is permanent and is just a guess. From that appeal it must’ve went onto their radar and it led to this ban.

I always just go with the location of where pokemon go has me at and it was where the dirt was but I can’t check since a 30 day ban on the account also bans me from accessing wayfarer to see the exact point. Regardless, they don’t always know when new places show up and may have also believed I was submitting this Hachicko statue from the Santa Anita Mall location as I had tried to turn that into a pokestop as well. I wish I could still access wayfarer to see the exact details but I’m stuck as of now. Thank you for doing that research though it actually got me thinking that it could be them making a different assumption

Hey, I never thought about doing that before with the coordinates but I think that’s a pretty good idea. I’ll probably just stay away from doing wayfarer submissions after this but I do appreciate the advice.

I was thinking it could help you overturn this ban if you can prove your submission was accurate.

Although the maps shared above may mean this wasn’t accurate?

Indoors, such as in shopping malls, GPS location inaccuracies are unavoidable. When requesting indoor location data, rather than relying on the device’s GPS, I cross-reference floor map, Google Maps, and aerial photos to pinpoint the location as accurately as possible. If an indoor store display is marked on an aerial photo as being on undeveloped land, that clearly indicates an incorrect location. You should have corrected it.

Please refer to my DM for more information.
