Banned words and problems with naming and describing POI

Well how the hell did you get “a$$” in and I didn’t :exploding_head: What are the context rules that allow for one and not the other? I’m pretty certain I’ve seen others struggle with the short version of Richard too
I’ve gotta say that’s kinda sexist, TBF, if Hancock is considered ok but Vaginia is going too far :sweat_smile:
In any case, those letters don’t mean anything untoward in the middle of a word! It definitely needs an overhaul :woman_facepalming:

Scottish profanity filters are a wee bit more lenient I guess

My previous attempts to credit artists of enormous locally significant ghost signs were description edits, but even in my recent submission of a piece that had been overlooked, I again had the issue and had to misspell the name because it seemed better than neglecting it altogether :woman_facepalming:

Extremely annoying but… Cool sign though.

I couldn’t submit a portal with “Blue T1t” in the title, but “Bluetit” is just fine, presumably the filter is capable of some fine-tuning.

That’s wild  I’m more confused than ever by how the filter works now lol

Keep in mind that the words filter is not static and has changed multiple times.

So it’s gotten even more restrictive? :face_with_monocle:

Imagine my struggle when I tried to nominate a mural in the town of Toppenish, Washington

That’s not what I said. I’m sure some areas have become more restrictive and others have relaxed.

I live by Assabet river, and I could not figure out why my nomination for “Assabet River Picnic Area” got flagged in October of 2022. Eventually somebody on Discord explained.
I got 17 nomination with “Asabet” in name or description accepted since. This misspeling irks me every time.

FWIW, PoGO’s route descriptions don’t flag Assabet. Maybe Wayfarer can borrow the filter from PoGO (assuming they have one).

hmm… i wonder if you could get help chat to correct the spelling on these with proof that is the actual name? if it irks you, maybe try that?

Interesting idea. Which chat are you suggesting? Ingress help center?

If you do try this please let us know how you get on. I’ve considered it, but I’m a bit paranoid about the end result after some location edits where they just did whatever they wanted, regardless of accuracy :face_with_peeking_eye:

Will do. I went through the “appeal title edit” branch in the chat, and answered N/A to the question about the edit I appeal. I’ll post here when (if?) I get an answer.
