I just google the name of the place and read through pages and pages of links, looking for any mention of events or reviews. Sometimes I switch to looking for photos of the place and then open the pages that host those photos - those websites may not show up in the regular search for some reason.
The important thing is that you can’t stop after just the first page of Google links. You may need to click through 10 pages or more. (This is a skill we old people learned back when search engines were terrible and we routinely had to dig deep to find what we wanted.)

This would be fine in the UK since the legal age for drinking is five years old.
We generally accept any old bar or pub and don’t even bother with thinking about whether it’s a suitable place.
