Hello. I ordered a wayspot from a well-known restaurant in the town, founded in 1972. It is more than 50 years old and it has not been accepted by the voters or later on appeal. The photo of the wayspot shows that the restaurant is from 1972. I think it has been reviewed incorrectly. A restaurant that has been open for so many years is not a generic business.
Restaurants are not automatic approvals. You need to provide context on why should it be approved. May be there is an interesting backstory, it might have won awards or is a hyper-local spot due to some other reason.
I’m moving this to nomination support section. Our community will have a look at your submission and will share feedback.
Edit: It’s already in the correct section. I must have misread it earlier
What was your description and supporting statement? Restaurants have to meet a higher bar than some other nominations, but they are eligible. But you really have to convince it is a destination to seek out, and not just another place you can eat. Just being old does not mean that it is popular.
I include a description of what makes the restaurant special when I submit one. Then I include links to awards, ratings, and articles featuring it in the supporting. And they still don’t all get accepted.
That is correct.
It is not necessarily eligible because it is a restaurant.
Wayfinder is obligated to explain that the restaurant is a great place and worthy of approval as a wayspot.
So, I would like an explanation of how the motorcycle dealers and car dealers that you and your Wayfarer team have imported in India have done so because they meet the eligibility criteria.
If there are no qualifying conditions, they are just local businesses.
Be consistent with your team’s actions.
I got probably over 200 restaurants approved. It can be a struggle at times for sure.
What I personally find helpful to do: I like to include some of their menu items in the descriptions, any awards they received, and anything other else that makes them standout.
For supporting information, I include their website link and link to my sources to verify the information about the awards that I provided. Even something like a link to their TripAdvisor or Google Reviews to provide the sense of how people in the community feel about them is a good idea.
In my area, there is a Best of the Best contest that the region’s newspaper (Tribune Review) holds and there is a bunch of different categories for Best Restaurants. If you can find something like that, it is a great resource.
It can be difficult to get restaurants approved, but it becomes much easier once you become familiar with how best to sell them to reviewers.
I am someone who got a lot of restaurants approved, but I think sometimes the expectation for a submitter to find all of that information is not realistic. I have to do a lot of work to get the detailed information for my nominations, but not everyone is able/willing to put that type of work into that. It is especially discouraging when you put that work into it and it gets rejected by the community & appeal.
Many people in the community put effort and quality into their nominations, and then Niantic does something like a Foursquare import to get a mass number of low quality nomination onto the board. I think there needs to be a little better middle ground when it comes to restaurants & things like memorial benches, where we can provide some information but do not have to provide an entire essay to get it approved.
So you’re the one nominating all the restaurants on the Trib lists! I’ve seen so many that link to their listings, all in a similar style.
I do have to say though, that I believe I’ve accepted them all; they’re done well, seemed to be appropriate nominations, and even without knowledge of the particular place being nominated, the supporting info convinces me that they meet the criteria every time. Carry on!
Thank you. I appreciate it. There is like a hundreds restaurant between the four regionals that received awards and I have been trying to get as many approved as I can. I try to difference my nominations, but I am not the most creative player so they could come off “similar” for some of the information.
I appreciate the effort put into good submissions! It’s so nice to see something other than a nondescript memorial bench or neighborhood sign.
And by similar, I didn’t mean to imply that your submissions seemed copy-pasted with just the name changed or anything, I just noticed multiple nominations with similar links in supporting, so assumed they were from the the same person.
But to bring the conversation back to @bielet81 original question, I would recommend following @Aquablast64 advice, it’s consistently worked on me at least!
