So I have had this weird bug happen to me twice now within the span of one month:
On January 23rd, I submitted a new Wayspot at location X. After finishing, I walked a little further and submitted another Wayspot at location Y, approximately 500 meters away from location X.
Wayspot 1 went through almost instantly (in less than one day). Wayspot 2 did not go through and was marked as a duplicate two days later. That isn’t true, but that’s a different issue. When I went to Wayfarer to check why it wasn’t accepted, I noticed that it was placed at exactly the same location as the first one. I was really baffled, but I forgot about it pretty quickly.
Now, on February 22nd, I again submitted two Wayspots within a few minutes. Both submissions got accepted. However, since I couldn’t find one of them, I went to Wayfarer again to check what happened. And guess what… it happened again! The second one went through, even though it’s in a completely wrong location. It doesn’t make any sense at all. You can clearly see on OSM or Google Maps that this Wayspot is not at that location. So I’m starting to wonder whether my fellow Wayfarers see the original location where I submitted it. Because otherwise, that Wayspot should never have gone through.
In-game everything was fine. As far as I know, you can’t move more than 10 meters away from your real location when submitting a Wayspot, so this bug just doesn’t make sense at all.
Is there any way someone from Niantic can change those two Wayspots to their correct locations? It makes it look like I’m cheating with those submissions…
There used to be a bug that if you submit multiple locations within the PoGO app, that if you don’t exit the menu between nominations, that the location doesn’t update and your input to select the location for subsequent nominations is not taken (your nominations all end up on the same spot)
Well… logically I cant confirm it 100%, since its been a week, and a month respectively, but I am pretty sure, I allways close the Menu automatically, after a sumbission. And both times there is so much distance and time, between the submissions, that i makes me more sure of it.
Now that you are aware of this happening, you need to pay closer attention to the location of a wayspot submission. I always make sure Pogo feels correct before opening the menu, but I still check it.
Like I said, It 100% was correct INGAME. I always look at that. I usually take a lot of time with the exact location.
I am totally convinced, that this bug/error happens on the server side of things, not on the device.
I have submitted at least 500 Wayspots, and was on a submission-spree so many times, and never had this happen, until this january.
That’s possible. Hopefully Niantic staff will have a look and comment.
Are you submitting through PGO or through Wayfarer? Ive found the map in Wayfarer moves quite easily when I’m simply trying to scroll down to the next entry box.
Through Pokémon GO.
Tbh I didnt even know, that you can submit through Wayfarer…
In both cases, the locations are 100% the same. you couldnt even do that, if you were trying to do it on purpose, lol.
It’s a fairly new feature, which has the benefits of not asking for a category and allowing up to 5 supporting photos. Same 10km distance limitation and you have to allow your browser to know your location.

Thanks, I will try that next time.

Hey @dundeex ,
Thanks for reporting it.
From what you have described, there seems to be something off with these submissions. Having said that, we have not seen similar reports from other Wayfinders so this looks like an aberration and may been caused because of network lag. We are definitely going to look into this issue.
Regarding the approved nomination at an incorrect location, please share the submission title and the correct location and I’ll make the changes. Alternatively, you could also reach out to help chat and they would assist you.

Thanks for your anwser and for looking into it.
Wayspot 1: Name: “Wanderwegweiser Teichlholzweg” - Correct location: 49.061790, 8.412728 (Google Maps Link)
Wayspot2: Name: “Erinnerungstafel August Babberger” - Correct location: 49.006111, 8.319913 (Google Maps Link)
I hope this helps. And yes, I know. The first one is difficult to prove, but the second one is totally clear.
Thanks for your help!

Network Issue would make sense in the first one, since its in a forest with really bad internet.
But the second one is in an area where there should be no issues of that type.
I have made necessary changes to these Wayspots.

Dont want to be impatient, or unthunkful.
I am just wondering when the changes should be visible ingame. I remember that in the past new Stops and arenas would syncronize at 7 pm european time. Has that changed, or does it take longer when someone of you official guys “intervene”?
Don’t worry about it. We are glad to assist in any way we can.
Oftentimes when we make edits to our database, there is a short period of time that passes between when the edits are input and when the changes are actually reflected.
No
Having said that, I see that the changes we made are already reflecting on the gameboard.
Let me know if this is not the case and I’ll see what we can do.
