Lately, when reviewing submissions, I’m getting contributions to an area I’m very familiar with. I have put many through to report as abuse/fake nomination because their submissions have not aligned with the correct location, with some being put at an apartment or house when they should be at a nearby park. I thoroughly believed they were trying to rig poi… until today! Here’s the reason I’m questioning things.
On Riolu hatch day my husband and I submitted some stops. I have been doing it for years, this was his first time. When I was reviewing nominations this morning I was able to review his stop.
Now, I saw his submission, we double checked the location of the pin and everything was accurate, when I was reviewing it put the pin so far down the road that I was not able to suggest a new location and had to reject his submission due to inaccurate location.
All this to say, I think something is wrong with the locations when submitting because we were doing everything honestly and correctly when submitting. This leads me to wonder if the person submitting stops in the other location that I have been reporting for abuse/fake nominations might be experiencing the same issue my husband experienced. If they truly are submitting correctly then that’s tragic but I’ll never know. I only know what exactly involved with my husband’s submission.
I’m here to get insight on this because seeing the mishap on my husband’s submission really has me questioning the consistency in the Wayfarer process.
Can you get the wayspot name and submission coordinate? It will be on thank you email. The most common mistake is when people rely on gps and didnt repin wayspot into correct coordinate. The coordinate on the email will be what you submit to wayfarer
Thank you for your assistance! I appreciate you. Yes it looks like the location was the wrong in the email. I don’t know what happened from the app to the email. Does this sort of thing happen a lot?
It happened to me. Basically i forget to repin the wayspot when i nominate it. Pin default will be at your location ( this is not wayspot location). Not to mention that gps drift can happen and make it worse. What you can do is double check your nomination after submission. When i realised i didnt repin, i withdraw the nomination.
I have noticed that on several occasions if my phone is connected to my car via Bluetooth, the GPS location is where my car is parked not where I an standing. I’ve learned to 1. Make sure that my phone is disconnected from the car (turn off Bluetooth), 2. Make sure that my avatar is moving on the screen, 3. Always use “Submit Later”, 4. Check the GPS coordinates in the email that I get after I get the email that I get after submittal. It’s saved me a few trips back for a renomination.
So it turns out the community decided to accept my husbands nomination, EVEN THOUGH I declined it for being in the wrong location. I’m hoping it is in Pokemon Go because that’s what I play, I’m going to have to go to the new stop and adjust the location.
Why would it still pass through voting even though I declined it for location?
Lots of people review each wayspot submission. If only a handful reject it, then it will usually be accepted. Many reviewers aren’t careful enough with checking the details.
Good on you for wanting to correct it once it goes live
It takes more than one community review to reject (or accept) a nomination. That is why your profile tracks “agreements”, not “correct reviews.”
The location of the accepted Wayspot can be corrected through help chat, whether it becomes a Pokestop or not. Help chat can be accessed at https://wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/new/help
@cyndiepooh , we are actually in a discord together. Thank you for your help. I’ve been contributing and reviewing for years and my status is good, but I’m just recently getting into the wayfarer community. I’ll help my husband get this corrected and going forward ALWAYS check the coordinates in the email
My main reason for the original post was that I was concerned I was reporting someone for abuse/fake nominations and I wanted to make sure I was doing things correctly and it wasn’t some error in the system. After all the help from the community I feel justified in making my decision for those fake nominations. But going forward I see just how important it is to double check location in the email confirmation!
There always have been and always will be people who try to abuse the system. With “AI”, it just increases the ways in which this can be done. Sometimes, they succeed, because some reviewers aren’t careful enough with checking things actually exist.
If you see something fake showing as a wayspot, please report it
