So the answer is that it can be a gym or a pokestop
But once it’s been accepted you cant move it or else that would be abuse correct?
(Just to be sure.)
I posted the wrong image above - some portals were hidden. I have replaced it.
It depends on how many L17 cells have Wayspots within the larger L14 cell. Here’s the breakdown:
- 2-5 filled L17 cells - 1 gym
- 6-19 filled L17 cells - 2 gyms
- 20+ filled L17 cells - 3 gyms
3 gyms are the max for a L14 cell. More info on S2 cells and PoGo can be found here: https://pokemongohub.net/post/featured/comprehensive-guide-s2-cells-pokemon-go/
I have to get going.
A wayspot can be moved for a few reasons
- It has been created in the wrong place, not where the object is
- The object has been moved but remains the same object
- It has been created on the object but could be at a better position
Examples of the latter
- the wayspot for a football field in the middle of the field. It can (and should) be moved to the edge or behind the goal
- The wayspot for a church has been placed at the roadside. It can be moved onto the front door of the church.
What cannot be done is moving a wayspot from a good location to another location that is just as good. For example, moving a wayspot for a playground from one corner of the playground to another corner. This is only even done for game purposes and is considered abuse.
Moves that improve the accuracy of the map are allowed.
Thank you so much for explaining @DTrain2002 and @salixsorbus
If you have no more pokestops than showing on the map I provided, then an accepted wayspot at the location you marked would mean one of the existing pokestops OR the new one would become a gym, as you would have 6 active wayspots (5 pokestops + 1 gym). Each of the 5 pokestops would have a 1 in 5 chance of becoming the gym.
I can’t follow this conversation. What are the gps coordinates for this location you would like to submit?
General area: 57.781256, 14.273074
The marker in the opening post: 57.783298, 14.272559
The Web Submit map does not have any Wayspots in this L17 cell.
Just want to clarify i meant to put the marker on the black square a little more down but i had a little difficulty putting it since i have shaky hands.
Even if the marker is not in exactly the right place, the answer doesn’t change. It would only make a difference if the real-life location is to the right of the thick cell boundary and in the L14 cell to the right.
The question about gyms needs the entire L14 cell to be checked for new pokestops since May 2025 ![]()
Tntnnbltn has created a tool for the Wayfarer Discussion Discord that allows us to see the cells from the Web Submit map, but I can only check within the radius of the nearby check, so is hard to check the whole cell. Happy to check individual coordinates.
Ya although someone did say a new and accurate S2 Cell map will come soon enough.
Wait can anyone join it or just mods from wayfarer.
Anyone can use this, but forum rules do not allow me to link to a third party tool.
We are hoping that a wayfarer map will arrive soon and that it will be possible to overlay it with an accurate S2 cell map. Since someone has done the overlay for the Web Submit map, it is very likely it will be possible for the wayfarer map.
The S2 cell map will not be official, as Niantic have never officially acknowledged the use of the S2 cells, but it should work as well as it did for the add-ons to Ingress Intel (which Ingress doesn’t care about, since it doesn’t use the S2 cell map at all).
Uh, something funny happened, basically that red wayspot near the apartments and the houses disappeared and the orange wayspot that was originally at the church became a gym how interesting.
