So this Image is showing the S2 Cells and i just wanna clarify there is a Pokestop nearby but it’s not in the same square as the one I’m trying to nominate so i just wanted to ask if a gym can be there or is it to close?
For more Information that house of life church has a Pokestop but I don’t know if I can put one where the red pin is.
@PinkPanther4847 This is off-topic, but I am finding it extremely hard to read your posts. I am aware that English is not your first language, so you may not know this, but please do not capitalise every word or every noun. Just the first word in a sentence (plus names of people, towns etc.) Things such as “house” and “life” do not need capitals unless the first word in a sentence.
Oh sorry my bad salix, i now understand.
Also regarding my question is there a possibility for a gym to exist in that area?
Each L17 cell can have a single pokestop or gym. The L14 cells, which are a grid of 8x8 L17 cells, can have up to 3 gyms depending on how many pokestops there are. You cannot choose which pokestop will be converted to a gym.
I am not sure what the blue grid lines are. They seem too far apart to be L17 cells and too close together to be L14 cells. Do you have a grid reference?
It depends on the number of L17 S2 cells with a Wayspot in them in the larger L14 S2 cell, which gyms appear in. There are 64 L17 cells in a L14 cell, and what you are looking at seems to be 1 L14 cell without the L17 cells populated. Here’s what a L14 cell looks like with all 64 L17 cells in it:
The original site where you can see it is is https://s2.mewpro.cc:5010/s2sphere/
I wouldn’t use this site, as it only lets you set one size of cell, not multiple cells. I use the Ingress Intel map with a S2 overlay to check cells, but sites like Pogomap can also show you these cells. Here’s how the visual settings should be set if you use Pogomaps:
But from what i heard this site along with IITC and Ingress is sometimes not accurate.
Also sorry to ask but is it okay if you can check if it’s possible just as a small favor.
The overlays are accurate, but the Wayspots may not be. Ingress no longer is a part of Wayfarer, and Pogomap requires users to add stops/gyms to the map. However, the S2 cells are accurate for both. Here’s how the S2 cells look when you select L14 and L17 in settings:
Actually, @PinkPanther4847 has shown the L15 cells, which matches what I said above. I will drop images of the L14 and L17 cells.
The site they are using doesn’t allow for multiple cells to be displayed, just one size, so just L14 or L17 in their settings.
The red, orange and green circles are the wayspots that are visible in Ingress as portals. They may be additional ones added to Pokemon Go since May 2025.
The large cells are L14, containing 8x8 of the L17 cells. These are the only cell sizes that matter for wayspots and gyms.
If you have 2 pokestops in an L14 cell, one gets converted randomly to a gym.
If you have a further 4 (making 6 in total including the gym), you get a second gym.
If you have a further 14 (making 20 in total including the gyms), you get a third gym.
When objects have a very specific location, such as fitness equipment, picnic shelters, then you don’t have much choice where to put the pin, so the cells (re proximity rules for Pogo) don’t really matter. if it doesn’t become a pokestop, it may become a powerstop. Don’t put the pin in the wrong location just to make the wayspot appear in Pokemon Go - this is abuse, and risks a warning and a strike.
When objects have a choice of location, such as a playground set, then knowing the cells can make a difference if you want a pokestop rather than a powerstop (or the other way round!), as you can choose where to put the pin when nominating and there is a legitimate choice of positions.
What you can’t do is try to move things after they are accepted in order to make them appear as a pokestop, if they are already in a good location and you are just moving them to a just-as-good location. People do that when they know about the cells and the proximity rules and are trying to tweak the gameboard.
They had L15, which is neither of the ones required ![]()
You can set to a different size cell, but only 1 size, not multiple like with Intel or Pogomap.
Based on what was there in May 2025:
The L14 cell on the right is close to getting a second gym. You will not get a third as there isn’t enough to get to 20 wayspots.
The L14 cell on the right already has two gyms. You will not get a third as there isn’t enough to get to 20 wayspots.
I understand that - I am saying they had set to the wrong size, neither L14 nor L17.
Yes, I know that’s the default, hence why it’s a bad map for S2 cells. I didn’t feel like this needed to be addressed, since it only shows 1 size of cell, not multiple, which is important here.
