Choose Accurate Location

The two examples you gave for location edits are spot on with criteria and absolutely moves I would make as well.

https://wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/new/help/location-guidelines

Do:

  • Place the pin at the real life location of the object you are nominating
  • Place the pin along the edge or entrance of large objects such as buildings and sports fields. Placement should ideally be at the natural point of approach, such as a gate or door
  • Place the pin at the base of overhead objects
  • Keep in mind, the location needs to be safe and accessible, even if the access is restricted to employees or people with special access rights.

For positioning, yes, but i have had the arguments befire where i would make an edit to a play park from the center to the entrance and been told i was wrong to make said edit because it was already correct, just i was making it more correct lol. In fact, i tried to get a move done over the weekend, playpark poi was in the center, i wanted to move it to the edge as i normally do but it was over 10m, so requested it theoigh help chat, they said it was fine where it was lol

Ive tried to move a play park pin from the middle to the gate too. Rejected.

Its frustrating because if that move was accepted, a nature reserve would appear in PoGo, or some amazing wood carvings, cant remember which one. Its basically a cell with 3 items in, all on the outer edges of the cell, and theres literally a better, less disruptive pin placement for the playground that would achieve it but in 3 years no one wants to do it. Albeit my edit spent most of the 3 years in queue

Interesting question! Sometimes the current location might be correct but another location might be better, for scanning or interactions. I would asume the picture of the poi would be the answear to correct location. And if there are many pictures taken from different angles then it would moust likely dont matter as long as the location is correct.
Moving a poi from a correct position, I think you should have good reasons to do so. And those reasons are often much better to communicate to support.

So, maybe we do need a clarification on positioning. I had a submission be reveiwed by niantic, it was a play park and i intentionally put it to the side, so that

  1. It wouldnt interfere with people playing in it

  2. It would appear in pokemon go (it wasnt going to appear in ingress)

But rhe nia reviewer has moved it to the middle, it kight still just become a stop, but to me where thya have moved it to goes against guidelines saying to put it at the edge

Also, i suggested an edit for a skate park to be moved through nia, i picked the bottom left of it, as thay is

  1. Safe

  2. The most likely place it would be dscovered first.

The wdit was made, but tjey moved it to halfway along the top middle of it, which would be fine, except they stuck it right at tbe fence of the nearby playpark, so its techcially safe, but still not the safest in my opinon, and ia isntead the most awkward bit thats not on the skate park lol

So are you saying they have selected a position that is not on the skatepark???
Can you show us a screen shot please or the co-ordinates.

I try to place play areas at a gate. The middle feels weird.

Its on the skate park still, but in an awkward position imo

The red circle is where they have moved it to (i thi k, its hard to judge on the wayfarer app), the green curcle is where i think would have been a safer and better postion

The light blue circle is also at the entrance to lennox park, so it would make sense as the waypoint as its where most people are going to “discover” it

Just in case you didn’t already know, you’re color blind.

Damn, thougbt id selected the green circle lol

Oh? How come it would be visible in pogo but not ingress? I thought moust poi would be visible in ingress but not pogo, never heard about the opposite!

That was changed since roughly August 2021 when they switched to the Lighsthip Database

That uses to be the case, but they changed it to the lightship database, so you can now get a waypoint to apear in pokemon go but not ingress if it lands with 20m of a portal but in its own cell, ive maaged this 4 times i can think of

Oh I see, that might actually be very true! I never look on cells when creating a poi.

biggest problem I have been noticing is that ingress portals at some point were relocated to an absolutely unplayable area…so far from the actual location that you cannot move the minimap over far enough to select the correct location without the map “snapping back” to the original view.
Some portals are in areas where there are no structures or man made objects of any kind, as well as being in areas where the public has no access do to security fences or natural barriers.
If the minimap would not relocate to center, an accurate location for the portal could be submitted.

you do not have to access the portal in game to get it moved to the correct position. you can access help chat from the help menu on the wayfarer page and have them do it. IF it is a correction.

I’ll take a look, tnx.

i want to be clear that wayspots do not have to be accessible to everyone, but they do have to be accessible by people allowed to be there. i was more concerned with these ones

these portals were relocated to this non-playable area. these portals are man-made structures that do not exist where they were mistakenly moved to. this is an area that only machina can access.

I agree, but the portal…no matter it’s method of creation, it should still be in relative proximity to it’s actual location.
One of them is 160m from it’s proper location.
