Community centre issue - generic business

Hello!

Any advice on this one?

Our estate is less than 10 years old and we’ve finally had the local community centre built which has a shop, a (soon to be opened) cafe, a bus stop and green outdoor area for meet ups so it’s clearly built as the central hub for the community. I can’t see why it keeps getting rejected.

I understand there’s no sign but it’s clearly a centre for the community.

One reason I got was that the shop that is part of the community centre is a Tesco so generic business but it’s the hub as a whole that I’m nominating. And the second nomination was rejected was due to photo being too far away as I took it from the green to avoid the generic business issue from the first nomination.

Understand I could wait until the café opens and nominate that, but really feels like the centre and green as a whole is a POI.

Any advice appreciated, thank you!

Can you share the other rejected nomination too so we can see both pictures?

Also the supporting info would be useful to see

Thank you for the response - both attached

Okay so its the central area of a new build estate where they finally added the bits they presumably listed as selling points to living in the area?

I think for wayfarer purposes, it would be better to look for individual parts of this space, so the community garden, the cafe, and any noticeboard in that Tesco if it has one could all be items that might be better submitted separately.

I would also have a check on the cell layout to see whether that would make multiple PoIs or just 1 or 2.

I think reviewers are looking at the area and not necessarily understanding what they are seeing based on the images

I hadn’t actually thought about a noticeboard in Tesco actually - that’s a good idea.

That all makes sense, thank you for your help and yes the shop we were promised many years ago! :upside_down_face:

Those kinds of notice boards can be accepted despite being inside a generic business. In fact, being inside that particular Tesco means it will be seen by so many people from the community - so it means its a great location for the board for maximum publicity for the notices

In addition to the other suggestions, I would say that the slanted photo would merit rejection on Orientation grounds, and there may also be number plates visible which is another cause for rejection.

Was this a decision by ML (our team) or was it voted on (the community)? I have found that ML doesn’t like lots of hardsurfacing in the foreground of main or supporting photos.

I have found noticeboards in supermarkets to be 50-50 for acceptance, so you might have to resubmit a couple of times. I have no idea why they get rejected (the rejection reasons in the emails are meaningless, so it’s basically that the reviewers don’t like them).

Just make sure the main photo is a good one and immediately says “noticeboard”. Your photo for the community centre simply says “random buildings”. First impressions are crucial.

Yep, as said above, I see at least 4 different buildings seen from afar, none of them an obvious community center. When you use this type of vocabulary reviewers will likely expect an actual building for meetings, celebrations, activities etc.

If that’s not what it is, don’t try to put “everything” in your nomination, you will have much more success focusing on the individually eligible objects.

You got a lot of great advice above - I hope the next attempts go better!

It was the community, both made it through to “In Voting”

If you want to, you can share your next nominations/potential photos here before submitting them ie submit and then put on hold so it doesnt go into voting right away, or share the photo and ideas for text?

Would love to help you get some PoIs here :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Initial observations:

Typo in Supplemental Information: “expoore”.

Also I suggest you leave out the bit about waiting 9 years for the shop as I don’t think that is relevant to the criteria and takes up space that you might need to provide additional justification.

Otherwise, I have never nominated an indoor wayspot, so I’ll leave to others to comment on the photo quality and content.

Thank you - will make both of those changes
