Criteria Clarification Collection - Discussion

I love the idea of farm shops. I haven’t submitted one yet simply becauseI haven’t had the opportunity, but I think they link to explore as they sell unique local produce and give the opportunity to talk to people who are extremely knowledgeable. They’re often a bit of a community hub too.

In the Wayback link from 2022, Giffard explicitly stated that we must never credit an artist using his/her real name, as that goes against the TOS.

Gifford’s statement in this regard has never been a part of Wayfarer functionality, where provision of artists’ names is strongly encouraged. Gifford seems to state that we are forbidden from using artists’ names, initials or handles in any manner.

By simple extension, the prohibition against ‘real names’ keeps us from naming ‘Washington, D.C.’ because that incorporates the surnames of two individual humans: George Washington and Christopher Columbus, and contains initials. You cannot win, if you call it “District of Columbia” you’re still IDing ol’ Cristobal Columbo all the same.

We would also be prohibited from identifying or revealing the initials in an enormous concrete sculpture in front of I.B.M. headquarters.

Sometimes, Niantic doubles-down, and then redoubles upon such poorly considered, expressed, and codified policies, statements and practices that they threaten the ruination of their entire system.

And that incorrect statement was corrected later in the topic

I don’t know you have to rely on that old link. The following is from current criteria:

4. Ineligible text or description

Title and/or description seems copied and pasted from other sources, includes emojis, tags, or personally identifiable information such as codenames, personal names or initials, or addresses.

All of the above can be true. It’s written in a way that isn’t always intuitive and we have had this discussion with people who genuinely don’t understand the wording.
