I am wondering if I should send my nomination in for review.
In Japan, buildings often used to house single families are used for businesses or stores. The nominee for my application is a permanently decorated building for SFPRP. The building is three floors high and currently houses a craft beer store on the first floor. The decoration was done as part of a local art project unrelated to the craft beer store. However, the exterior of the SFPRP building would look like a residence if it were not for the store sign.
I hope that the store will continue to operate in good standing, but management is not easy, and there is no telling when the building will revert to SFPRP-only use.
Google Street View can help us in our reviews, but there is no guarantee that this service will last forever. We can see past street views now, but not necessarily forever.
Can I turn the nomination over to review? Please let me know your opinions.
A building that has multiple uses is not a single family private residential property. This is a mixed use building, being there is a business in one part and a housing unit in another, so it doesn’t go against PRP rules.
Even if the building switches to housing only, it’s not a single family home, as each floor could hold 1 housing unit, so a minimum of 3, 1 on each floor. Single family homes only have housing for 1 family, not multiple. Duplexes are homes that have 2 housing units in the same building, for example, and they are not considered single family PRP.
Being this isn’t single family PRP, I would follow what has been outlined in the criteria clarification for buildings such as this:
We also have houses in the US that used to be single family PRP but have been fully converted into something else, such as a store, cafe, or museum. I know of a cafe where I live that’s in an old house, and it’s been a business of some sort for over 25 years.
You need to see the building for what is currently is being used for, not what is could be used for or what it was in the past.
The problem is that the building has only one entrance, not two separate entrances, one for the residence and one for the business. If the building is later returned to residential use only and reported as an Abuse, there could be no way to prove that the building was used for a business. In that case, I am very uncertain whether Wayfarer staff will review the text and images of the supplemental information to make a decision.
For clarity, see the Google Street View screenshot of what the structure looked like 14 years ago. Can you understand my concern?
Even if your accused of abuse, you are able to appeal the decision and defend yourself with whatever proof you can provide.
This doesn’t look like a single family PRP to me. It does look like it was multi family housing in the past.
Again, it doesn’t matter what the building usrd to be or could become; what matters is what the building is being used for now. You can explain this in the supporting info, but I really don’t see much need to.
And yes, I know of many mixed use buildings with only 1 outside entrance, but inside there may be separate entrances for the businesses and housing units.

Thank you for your advice. It appears I was a little too concerned.
I will let the community review the nomination.
