Demoralized wayfarer

I absolutely agree that you should stop if you feel this way. But it isn’t true that no one cares. If you want to share your nominations, we might be able to help you see where or if you can improve them, but mental health is much more important than potential game locations.

just had a softball field denied. so now things for handicapped people, memorials for veterans, and sports fields for females are denied. this game is definitely going in the wrong direction.

anyone want to help out here, this is wild.

Hello
Would you like to show your softball submission please so we can get a better grasp on the issue.

That sure is counterproductive. You should not get penalised for reviewing nominations quicker and more often than others. It poses a real threat of a downward spiral leading to less and less wayspot reviews.

I just kept doing reviews because I want as many wayspots reviewed as possible for the benefit of the game community. Now that I know it lessens the impact of each action I take, I have to wait a few days before doing anything else. That’s a minus of a good 50 to 100 contributions per week. Multiply by however many people are getting demoralised and you got a veritable review nuke.

Demoralised is when Niantic do a mass dump on a whole country then apologise and say next time we’ll do better because the community is important to us.

Then six months later do the same.

Then six months later do the same…

Forget Powerspots as those are just cheap, nasty and lazy.

What exactly is the point of the criteria?

It’s definitely not the philosophical ideas of explore, socialise and exercise otherwise they wouldn’t do the above to Brazil, India and Turkey and they definitely don’t care about accuracy or eligibility.

Obviously rules are needed to retain checks and balances otherwise I’d nominate everything and accept everything.

The criteria is in place to gatekeep the community, us, basically.

At this point Niantic themselves have created more abuse in some countries than the whole of the Netherlands, Spain and Poland put together.

To have all that while simultaneously have to read Ambassadors and other users say do this, don’t do that, follow the rules, don’t cause dissent and read the pearl clutching horror about the community abusing the map and happy to go along with the endemic culture of reporting each other that Niantic have happily created is ludicrous.

At this point we have landed firmly in the realms of groupthink and deindividuation.

I guess it helps if you tell yourself that’s the Go team not the Wayfarer team even though they have Niantic in their username…

I’ll still add P0kest0ps for myself and other actual people but I’ll put in the amount of time and effort that Niantic themselves do.

I’m positive they will do another crass dump in the future and 2+2 will still equal 5.

Very well said, it is clear that Niantic as whole don’t care one bit about accuracy, consistency, communication or clarity. They hobble and undermine their own teams with such poor decisions.

Nor do they value us as wayfarers. I have entirely stopped reviewing at this point, I don’t really bother with the forums any more, it all just feels futile and thankless.

I know of many other people that were once passionate that have lost all faith in the system too. I still submit wayspots to improve the games for myself and others but that is all, I have no loyalty left to Niantic, if they have no standards, why should any of us!

Is this still an issue?

I just noticed my rating drop for the first time ever since I started reviewing…

No idea why. I have been using “I don’t know” a bit more. The UK nominations have been challenging me recently with poor titles, descriptions, photos, locations and piddling poor supporting evidence.

The slam dunks are less there than previously. So I am taking care.

It is interesting. By the way I always include a reason as why rejecting. That other field is my gold protection. I would challenge Niantic and co the whole way that my reasons are valid.

But hey. I have zero idea how the system works

Not that I care. By the way. I enjoy nominating and reviewing. And will continue as I am but would love to know how the system works and if by being more careful on accepting nominations I am getting a wagging finger… Taaaa

Mine dropped to good and took weeks and weeks to go back to great when Id almost completely stopped reviewing. So it did repair itself but it took aaaages

I think, as you say, the UK reviews to be done now are pretty weak, or are of “contentious” things ie trail markers that we know are eligible items but many reviewers reject them, so I doubt they are good for agreements.

I think its going to be very difficult to maintain a great rating going forwards, the ML takes the easy agreement type nominations and we get a lot of edits that give no agreements, and then a bunch of stuff that mostly looks sort of eligible but probably will get rejected for a dumb reason so you lose an agreement if you vote for it

Ive been skipping most stuff now because I dont want to lose my rating again. And I dont want to reject stuff that I should approve but I know it will be rejected by reviewers, so I skip

Well that means the weak nominations fall into two camps for reviewers

One. Don’t care accept all - majority
Two. I care - I will take time and confirm - minority

If minority. Watch the sky. It may fall in on your rating

Niantic are stretched. I get it. Emily (ML) has done wonders in speeding up the review process. I have come out the other side in a good place with my nominations on the whole processed so quickly. But it is challenging that with mainly dross left to humans then we are at risk

Many people (mainly not those here) want to get the mostest, get their badges, get their appeals etc. With only dross to process they process those at speed. So the inequity between reviewers rises and skews to bad reviews succeeding… and the rest with rating falling (bigging myself up as a good reviewer here - sorry)

OR I am grumpy at the system… Anyway as I stated earlier. I will carry on…

By the way apparently this topic is solved. But at no point did I see how it was solved… .As it appears the issue of declining ratings is still going on  And and and and

I solved it for myself by not reviewing. My rating has been static for months.

On the last few submissions I’ve made my first thought is will Emily like this. That’s a definite shift to how can I sell this to humans and a lot easier as a submitter. I think the robot is pretty blasé about a lot of things :robot:

I’m not sure thats the case at least for me. I think many common items for review are misunderstood by many people and are rejected when they should be accepted or vice a versa

I typically accept trail markers, as I believe they promote exercise and exploring. However my own submissions have been rejected many times (although always eventually accepted). So I know for sure that these are often going to be disagreements if I vote to accept any trail markers.

During the last challenge, reviewing US nominations, there were so many graveyards and generic memorial benches. These are supposed to be rejected in many cases (although there are acceptable exceptions). I could tell that these items must be widely accepted since so many were being submitted, so clearly rejecting these would also be gathering me a lot of disagreements.

I think there are just not enough playgrounds, pubs, cool murals, churches and other widely accepted items being passed to reviewers anymore to get the high rate of agreements.

Everything is mediocre and middling and difficult.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will watch this space.

Be interesting to see. I have to say I am not in the bigger towns/cities so get ample opportunity to nominate some interesting things out in the country - smaller villages offer some scope. They do exist. I know when in the city I struggle. Though I just had 6 accepted in London. So hey maybe I added to the dross

If my rating changes again I will make a note.

Good luck and thanks for input

No I don’t think you added to the dross at all! But the ML takes so many of the good nominations (and some of the worst ones too I think) that the pool we end up reviewing is mostly sort of middling with not many gems I think.

I hope your rating resolves like mine did. Im pretty sure that you havent suddenly become a bad reviewer! I hate the not knowing though. Would love to get feedback as rating drops so that we can know more about what happened ie here are some examples of reviews where you voted differently to the end result

@TheDoctorBird well mine dropped back to good again today, did maybe 2 reviews yesterday?

@frealafgb this is so true – “” I hate the not knowing though. Would love to get feedback as rating drops so that we can know more about what happened ie here are some examples of reviews where you voted differently to the end result""

It is the not knowing. I know I am not great but I do take a fair bit of time to review. I always always try to leave a comment why I have made a decision. So when those decisions impact your rating you are like why? That said I will stand by the ratings I have made.

I too am using skip more. Or I just stop reviewing. Of do something else and come back hoping time has expired

Hope your rating comes back soon.
