Hello,
I am wondering why my contribution has “blurry photo / generic business” as declined reasons? Its a 50mp photo taken on my samsung s23+ with night mode on and is very clear!! And its not a generic business its a direction sign post?! With benches around it and its been around for many years, look at its detail & design?
I’m well aware of the criteria exam like nominations, and i do my research and trying to build up this lovely town & historical locations or nice points of interest. But whoever rejected my nomination, no, you are wrong. I’m pretty sure it was a human and not AI, but at this point, most of my nominations take ages to get seen or bumped up to stage 2 if not already rejected. My recent footbridge had to be uplaoded 2 times because someone thought it was a temporary structure like scaffoldong when it’s just the design of the footbridge, haha!
Now ive learnt many tips and advice from other reviewers and admin on here and I’m just windering what standards are we holding if this contribution has false rejections. I’m going to re do this nomination as its a lovely spot and ideal for people in the area whom maybe lost. But yeah just throwing this out there, i know night time photos are risky but this is ridiculous as its high quality & and you clearly see what it is.
The full rejection reason includes “not Distinct” and I would guess that reviewers who used that did not think the footbridge was anything significant in its surroundings.
For the signpost, I believe that people used “low quality photo” as a convenient way to reject something they did not believe should be a wayspot. I also think they used “generic business” to mean “generic”. Imo, Niantic really needs to add back “Does not meet criteria” as a rejection reason. But as it is, we have to pick something in the top four questions to reject a nomination, so we do the best we can.
How did you describe the signpost as meeting criteria? I could go either way on this one, but the nomination would have to convince me.
The generic business reason was likely chosen by those who wanted to make sure they were voting to reject your nomination. Since there is still conflicting information about what making thumbs down on the 3 eligibility criteria actually does.
As for night time photos, I would avoid them altogether unless there is some artistic benefit. Such as a building or artwork having special illumination.
Well it encourages exploration, its a place you can sit down and rest at with many sightseeing locations nearby walking distance and it has actual history. Its old but in amazing condition. So it has many reasons. I see people nominating rubbish signs or graffiti but i never just outright go naaa that’s boring i see it as people want more stops or whatevr else other game uses them and its helpful building up the areas for all gamers of niantic. It baffles me how bias users can be. Niantic are building a huge map anyway. We all know this. But saying its not good enough when the majority of reviewes i gey are to accept sign posts and footpath stickers like inrarely see reviews cone in for like building or art or places of interest its always sign pists directional posts and foot path stuff. So really this is another one just way more detailed? I’m going to re do it in hopes someone sees its not just generic or a bad photo.
I will leave this part to the UK folks. But if this is a sign for a sightseeing tour, then I would accept it. If it is directions to shops, I am not so sure about it. If the seating area is part of the nomination, you should include that in the main photo.
But if this is directions to shops, then maybe the “generic business” rejection reason makes more sense.
Yeah jt was almost like both blurry photo and inaccurate were ticked. But as above it seems someone purposefully didnt want this as a wayspot for whatever game it may go to. I’m just uoset about it as ita not generic and its a nixe spot tonrest with history, a beautiful direvtional sign post like you don’t see them like this anymore really. I live in a n old seaside town with so much documented and viable history and I’m trying to capture these little trinklets of time lost and nixe places to walk to.
Well it clearly states to town centre, lifeboats place, toilets, local tudor house which is very old and do tours as well as give lots of other historical facts for the area, and keads to other footpaths like its not (mcdonalds this way or fish & chips here) i get what you mean but this is an actual directional sign post useful to drivers and pedestrians. I do try my beat to research and enter the description in well before the review status changes, and i can’t edit it when home. But yeah, at least I know I review everyone with heartfelt intent. I won’t deny someone’s time and effort making a nomination just cause i find it boring or generic. If it gets me out the house and it meets any of the criteria, it be a good suggestion. Thanks for the replies. Gonna see if i can do it.
It’s telling you what direction to go in to get to the Coastal Path, as well as other places in the city, so it’s still a directional sign. It doesn’t appear to be a part of the path, as the path can be seen northeast of the location of the nomination on the map.
A trail marker would be on the path, not direct people to where the path is. If this marked the start of the path, which is doesn’t, it may be eligible.
