There is a collection of uniquely carved walkway signs at a recreational community called Sandy Pines in Michigan that are pointing towards the many publicly accessible and safe walkways throughout the entire park. Im having some trouble getting a plethora of them accepted despite satisfying each guideline and being distinct. The park speed limit is 10 mph and the primary modes of transportation is golf cart and biking.
One of my rejected nominations I had appealed but was denied for being a “mass-produced object” despite being the only one of its kind. I would think if something like this was a mass-produced object then wouldnt trail markers as a whole be unacceptable? I was hoping this one could have some extra eyes to possibly reverse this decision. Thanks!

Welcome. I check your map link. It doesnt looks like trail at all. The area looks like residential area. Its probably just small path (+/- 40m long) leading to beach
There are no street view as well. We cant even confirm if the path is real or someone’s attempt to get home pokestop. When I see nomination so near to residential area, i got sceptical. I dont have border map for this area. Do you have border map proving the area between house is public path?

I understand all of that, and was expecting this kind of skepticism when submitting these walkways. I did my best to get a good surrounding picture to prove it is there but the lack of streetview and the poor satellite imagery has brought down the perceived validity of these signs. Would be neat is these nominations allowed for more than one supporting picture, that could really help prove the existence and validity of spots like this one.
That being said, however, since Sandy Pines is such a densely packed recreational park, as can be seen on satellite and on the one path that streetview has, these walkways are integral for people to actually even find the beaches to begin with, and having an eye-catching custom carved rustic wooden sign adds a lot of uniqueness to the exploration of the park. Having the appeal be rejected based on a LACK of uniqueness of the sign in particular was a very confusing decision that I wanted to bring attention to.
If you can see other wayspots in the area, I have been going around and nominating a bunch of these walkway signs as they all have their own unique carving, like one with water skiing ants, one with a guy trying to walk a deer, one with a man leaning on a tree, etc. They are all really fun to find around the park, and are often used for the parks yearly scavenger hunts.
I personally don’t see the “walkway” as eligible. I have had several arguments here regards “Footpaths vs Trails” so I won’t continue with that.
So it leaves me with the sign and I would have to ask…

Permanent: It does look like something that will easily be damaged whether that is by vandalism or weathering.
Private Property: What side of the property border is this located (looks to be off Private Property but not 100% sure).
If your nomination answered these I would have probably vote to accept, just a few doubts with the current submission so would have probably “Skipped” instead.
Understandable argument for the footpath vs walkway, this nomination is specifically for the sign, but the walkway itself is kind of supporting it in a way if that makes sense. Sort of to give it validity AS a sign. If the walkway was just a walkway with a bland sign I would just pass right on by. There was one like that which I was considering nominating, but decided against it as it was just one of these signs with the word “walkway” on it and no carvings nor art.

I wouldn’t classify it as mass produced since it has a unique carving thats only present on this specific walkway sign, but the sign itself withOUT the carving can be found in a plethora of spots throughout the park, which is why i wanted to nominate only the ones with carvings.
These walkway signs have stood the test of michigan winters and spring storms, and have not lost neither their colors nor their sturdiness. As well as this, I don’t think I have ever seen any of these signs be dirty or in any other shape than pristine. Sandy Pines does a fantastic job taking care of these signs.
As for private property, the signs are always planted on the walkway side rather than the nearby residence’s driveways, or they are part of a fence that follows the walkway, which is always on public ground. The issue with these nominations lies mostly in how dense the park is, which is why I completely understand it when people flag these as being on private property. It also really does not help that the park isnt covered by streetview, but thats mostly because it is a gated community so a streetview car would have a harder time getting access, hence why the only streetview in the park is done by a golf cart lol
It won’t be me that will be reviewing (I am in the UK) so my only suggestion is to forget the walkway and nominate as “Unique Art Sign”. You need to try and convince the reviewers of everything you have posted above.
It will never be an easy accept but IMO worth the effort.
This is the only bit that worries me. If the fence is separating the walkway from the private property then anything attached to the boundary (the fence) is also classed as a Private Property, no matter which side of the fence it is on.
