Upgrading to these forums was a huge success in at least one way - it isn’t obvious at first glance what game users are primarily associated with. There has always been tension.
Similarly, referring to a wayspot as a “portal” or “pokestop” could say a lot about the poster. If I see someone using a game specific term, and they get replied to by another user with a generic term, to then see that initial person use the game specific term again I see that as disrespectful at worst, lazy at best. It is an active choice to be less inclusive.
We already ban game-specific discussions. Why then allow those terms to be used?
It would be bad to ban the game terms imo. Many of the conversations are about why wayspots are not showing up as Pokestops. And I use a map of portals to illustrate S2 cells. I think this is a valuable feature of having the forum, and don’t want to shut down every conversation asking for clarification.
I do like that I didn’t have to pick a game to display here since I play both Ingress and Pokemon Go.

I agree.
Anyone who disrespects other Wayfarer users by using game specific terms should be poked with pointy sticks.

@AlexMTG thanks for raising this.
I feel it was a positive move to remove the game tag from a players name.
I try to use neutral language in order to encourage neutral language. But I am not bothered if someone doesn’t respond that way.
In some instances it makes life very hard if we try to insist on it especially where someone is new and for them the concept of a wayspot is very abstract. I regard it as better to use terms they will understand while weaving in the more neutral terms as positive reinforcement.
It would be tiresome to have to police it.
So yes I welcome encouragement but not hard rules.
So @26thDoctor you can put away your joke sticks for another day.

No need.
The forum jobsworths have taken care of it already
I understand that people will come here and talk about Portals or PokéStops as that’s the language used in the game that they play.
Would it be better if those words were auto replaced with Wayspot on the forums? I don’t know.
I don’t mind it overly for those instances but when people start going on to Missions or Gyms, then I like to politely* redirect them to the relevant spaces to discuss that further.
*may not apply after I stop being an Ambo /s
I have no issue with game specific terms, as typically it is from those asking why their approved Wayspot isn’t in their game, and I’m happy to educate them about Wayspots, Lightship, density rules, etc.
Now, game specific threads are not actually banned, especially as most OPs don’t know where to go. Usually, we inform the OP that this forum is only for Wayfarer, and that they should ask their question elsewhere, such as a game specific forum, social media, or other websites. Once being informed of this, then the thread is typically closed, but it’s not a ban.
The OP is still welcome to post in the forums, as long as they are posting in regards to something specific to Wayfarer. If they continue to post about other topics, that would be seen as abuse/spam, and then they may not be able to post any longer.

And there’re still some people here which wishes those people get some room to ask, talk or enrich this community by being here and bring in the thoughts from outside of wayfarer.
