Just wondering, If I nominate a Pokéstop that I don’t know has already been nominated then it clears, mine is obviously a duplicate and should not then pass.
Will my ranking suffer for this?

Your ranking is only about your reviewing: your submissions have nothing to do with it. Duplicates happen all the time. If yours becomes a duplicate before it enters “In voting” status, you can withdraw it to keep from wasting reviewers time, but there is no repercussion on you either way.
