Candidates gets marked as duplicate because of database issue

Hi guys

Repeatingly, I noticed in the past months and years, that some POI submissions got rejected because of duplicate.

I’m doing this submission business for more than 5 years now, so I’m pretty familiar with this procedure and the mechanics behind this.

About the issue now:
Back in the days, me and some of “my” community used “Wayfarer” app in the past for submitting candidates. At a certain time, therer was an update to no longer use this app for submissions. Therefore we remained using PGO an ING for submitting again.

It seems that the Wayfarer-submitted candidates which got accepted never appeared in any of the games, but are existing in the database and therefore gets declined while voting.
I recently appealed a rejection and informed the NIA team to keep in mind about a certain bug to not show the candidates and probably fix the issue then. Unfortunately, even from the Niantic team there was no positive feedback to activate the POI for the games somehow.

Comment from NIA from the most recent appeal:
Thanks for the appeal, Explorer! We can confirm that there is another Wayspot connected to the same location and as a result, we are unable to approve this nomination.

So if you already see, this candidate exist in the system, is there not any chance to activate - or even delete - this bugged POI to allow re-submitting through PGO or ING?

Maybe some higher NIA staff member could look into this general issue`?

Thanks for your time.

Nominations being submitted through the wayfarer app and not appearing in any game is not a bug, it is an intended feature. This was confirmed by @NianticThibs on the old forum, as can be seen here.

The majority of the wayspot submitted by our developers are added to the Niantic Map but not available for our first party games to use. This is the expected behavior of using the Wayfarer App with a developer profile.

Such nominations are in the database and therefore are correctly marked as duplicates. They are just not eligible to show up as Pokéstops, Gyms or Portals.

Welcome to the community. I know the frustration, but at no point did Niantic state that we should be using the Wayfarer app to submit valid portals. The existing means (Ingress and Pokemon Go) had the ability to submit nominations and should have been the only choice.

I am sympathetic, and I hope Niantic can come up with a solution for you.

We have seen this reason given when something is not a direct duplicate as well, just something that the appeals reviewer thought was not distinct enough on its own.

This is the point where I usually recommend checking for Wayspots that don’t appear in Pokemon Go on the nomination map screen while you are right there taking photos, but the toggle isn’t working for me. And Ingress doesn’t have this feature.
