Duplicates Question

Maybe this is completely going over my head, but I’m constantly banging my head against the wall over the issue of duplicates. I’m so conflicted that I am constantly skipping over reviews because of this …
Example: Accepted Wayspot of a Trail Sign at the beginning of a trail. Less than 5-6 feet away, someone has nominated another sign. It is not an “exact” duplicate of the accepted Wayspot, but its damn near close enough.
Example 2: Accepted Wayspot for a Pizza Shop. Within the same plaza parking lot, someone has nominated the Plaza Sign, the Plaza Bench, the Plaza Bike Rack.

I understand the concept of “exact” duplicates, but what I heck and am I doing with all of these nominations on top of each other?

As long as the nomination is not a duplicate of an existing Wayspot, it is eligible to become a Wayspot. Each Niantic app has its own proximity rules to determine whether it will be included in the app.

If the sign is a significant distance from the object then it should be considered on its own. If it is close, such as with a pizza shop sign and a nearby pizza shop, then it should be marked as a duplicate.

It should be reviewed on its own merit.

Doesn’t sound very promising from what I can imagine. Having said that, it is difficult to comment without taking a look at it.

Thanks,

Yeah, none of these are duplicates. As you noted, duplicates have to be for an already approved Wayspot, with the info being the same. Trail markers can look similar but be in different places. A pizza shop in a shopping plaza is not a duplicate of the plaza sign, as both could be eligible to be Wayspots.

Larger areas are allowed to have more than one Wayspot, and this is listed in the help center in the Content Guidelines:

Wayspots within Large Areas

Wayspots within large areas like parks, plazas, and fields are eligible as well, even if the larger area itself is a Wayspot. Just keep in mind that someone may have already made a nomination on various objects/placemarkers around entrances, which could lead to a rejection (as a duplicate).
