Level 35 seems to unlock liking photos, too!
Yuuup! The Ambassadors made sure we didn’t miss that
Might be the biggest change and would really bring more cool rural area to life. I love this change!

I’ll be completely honest. I don’t mind the change, lowering the level to 35 to unlock photo likes.
However, I absolutely do mind L35 unlocking Wayfarer nominations. Only need 6M XP to reach L35. A completely insult to those of us who grinded 20M XP to reach L40 to unlock submissions. And I have been staunchly against the chipping away of requirements, both level, and education to access Wayfarer. One of the big reasons I stopped reviewing is because explorers were submitting so much dumb crap without know what they were doing. And reviewers letting so much dumb stuff through because they don’t know jack about criteria.
Wayfarer isn’t a reward for reaching a certain level in a game, they can change the requirements for who gets to access it any time, they can unlock it for everyone, make it harder or, change the method of access entirely. Their goal is to get more contribution in the system, specially for areas where it may be tougher to level up.
Being Ingress has split from Wayfarer, it hasn’t been as busy in the forums, less questions being asked it seems. This could bring in more to the community, allow us to help out more, etc. I’m also not surprised that L35 was chosen, as I do like watching to see how well it goes before thinking of going lower.
I do hope that some of the changes with levels aren’t just looking at lowering them, but also adding benefits to those with higher levels, like additional nominations per day or even access to a Wayspot map (you never know). Just a few wishes I think some of us may have!
Honestly, the amount of grind in pogo is already kind of insulting, so I actually feel good when the Wayfarer team gives casual players an opportunity to have fun and not be left out.
That said, removing the entry test definitely doesn’t help…
I can’t tell you how long I’ve been stuck at L40 because I just can’t catch 200 in a day.
Genuinely curious, why do you think access to the map should be level gated?
And I’ll leave you curious.
Scratches it out of my notes for the next ambo meeting
As much as I agree that Wayfarer education needs to be addressed… indint remember it being any better when there was a test.
I think if you look at what some of the reasons could be, you might be able to understand my comment I really don’t want to discuss, as I feel it might not end well for a neurodivergent person like myself.
What about the players that reached Level 50 before nominations in Pokemon Go was even a thing?
Does it actually matter if you are a new wayfarer at level 50 or level 2, you are still new to wayfarer and will still make mistakes (as most longer term wayfarers will).
L50 first became available in November of 2020, way after Wayfarer was opened up to PoGo players in 2019 worldwide.
Point taken, wasn’t around at the time and it seems like Google lied to me
Still stand by paragraph 2…
Well, you can’t access Wayfarer at L2, but you can at L50.
I did not start Wayfarer until I was around L39, so if you are L50 and haven’t nominated or edited anything yet, then you would most likely be seen as a newer Wayfarer. Keep in mind that Wayfarer doesn’t have levels itself, and there could be reasons for this, like not trying to create a completive environment outside of the games.
Those people in remote region are having more difficulty leveling if they dont even have wayspot.
When i first play ingress, there is nothing in my area. It take 2 months to get my 1st approved portal . within that 2 month i barely reach lv4/5. There is nothing i can attack or hack. Luckyly when pogo comeout , the number of wayspot ald increased significantly. But there are still area out there that barely have wayspot despite having eligible nomination simply because noone can submit. Its a vicious cycle, to level up faster, you need pokestop/gym but you cant make nomination until your lvl is high enough
