Good nominations auto-rejected – looking for advice

I hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out because I’ve recently submitted two nominations in my neighborhood that I believe are good candidates for Wayspots, but they were automatically rejected by the system. In my area there’s a lack of stops/gyms, so these would really help improve the local gameplay and community.

Below I’m sharing the details of each nomination, along with some notes:

Nomination 1:
Title: Mosaico “Alhambra”

Description: Arte en azulejo que hace referencia al Patio de Comares de la Alhambra de Granada, una de las 7 maravillas del mundo.

Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/9vSS9gW1YQrv5bQT8

Additional info: Es un azulejo decorativo en la calle, totalmente al público y en una zona transitable.

Nomination 2:

Title: Hamburguesería SMASH’D

Description: Hamburguesería local especializada en hamburguesas estilo smash, manteniendo el toque clásico de las hamburguesas de toda la vida.

Address: https://maps.app.goo.gl/WwDNot89ucBj7aSMA

Gracias!

I’d really appreciate any feedback or advice on what could be improved, or if there’s something I might be missing when nominating. The first one corresponds to a mosaic from the alhambra: Patio de los Arrayanes - Palacios Nazaríes - AlhambraDeGranada.org
The second one is a local restaurant, not a franchise, it’s very unique because in my city, appart from the franchises, there are one or two burger locals.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Miguering
Welcome to the forum :hugs:

Niantic/Scopely never revealed how their automated process works.
When I look at your screenshots my guess for your first nomination is, that it might think that’s SFPRP (home of a single family). There’s only one ring if I see it correctly.
With your second submission I’m a bit confused on your supporting photo. Is there another name above the store?

Let’s see what the community thinks.

Welcome to the forums

It is believed that eMiLy rejects submissions based not just on the photo but takes the title, description (and possibly location) into account as well. I certainly can’t see anything wrong with the photo for the mosaic, so there has to be something else that eMiLy picked up.

Unfortunately, the auto-translate button doesn’t appear when a post is in two languages, but dropping into google translate, I don’t see an issue with the text either.

That leaves the possibility that the location is a problem (is this SFPRP - single-family private residential property? That looks like a possibility) or that eMiLy didn’t see the object as significant (does this exist anywhere else? Is it a common mosaic or unique?)

With the second submission, Smash’D, there’s something weird about the supporting image. It’s of the same location, but the restaurant name has been very crudely erased. This may be sufficient to cause eMiLy to suspect that the submission is dubious.

The supporting image should always include the POI, so that the reviewer can clearly see the POI in its surroundings. Lots of people fail to do this (and when streetview doesn’t assist, I simply reject for location. Others may not be as harsh though.)

Speaking to the first nomination. Looking at the Google Street View.

It looks like the Mosaic appears to be on the side of a SFPRP, or at least I’m guessing that is what eMiLy though it was. Not being familiar with the local area, You would need to do a good job explaining in your supplemental information that it’s not SFPRP.

Hi.

1st: i would need some kind of proof that it is not a private residence. I wish scopley/niantic would change the rule. As the walkway is clearly public and the art meant to be looked at. I have a house nearby that has a nice wall and can and shall be looked at. As the rules are: No stop, as the wall likely belongs to a private property.

2nd: I would take another supporting photo proving the location. I can see the store on street view, but your photo shows another logo. I would also mention the location has a 4.9 rating on google. To me this is a good stop. Worth trying again.

Thank you fellas for your feedback, I really appreciate it.

First of all, in the first nomination, I didn’t know what SFPRP was. In my opinion, I think the mosaic belongs to the house wall, but I’ve seen more intrusive POIs than that. If you see, there’s a traffic sign just fixed to the wall, meaning that cars park just there, so I think it shouldn’t be a problem to pass eMiLy’s validation. I think I’ll take another photo of the surroundings. Wish me luck and I’ll be reading any advice on the prompt

Btw, the mosaic is very unique as it represent one famous location from the Alhambra, one of the 7 Wonders.

In the second nomination, the second pic is not edited, It was just a reflection from the sun, as the logo is plastic made lol. I think I will also retake the photo.

Would you add anything in particular to the description or to the help text in order to pass the validation? :face_holding_back_tears:

Thanks in advance!!

I didn’t weigh in on this, because houses look very different in other parts of the world than here in the states. But SFPRP (single family private residential property) has been very clearly defined as even on an outer boundary:

Existing Wayspots that should not have been accepted or were accepted under other rules are probably the reason this clarification was made.

I don’t claim to know what the ML (machine learning ai) model looks for in auto-rejecting something, but I always try a different photo when I resubmit. On both of these main photos, I would try backing up just a little bit to give just a little more context as to what you are submitting. Not a lot though.

The business photo is very good, though. If you can’t get the hamburger place past the automated process, you may have to appeal this. You get two appeals, each on a 15 day timer before you can use it again. But you really need to have evidence that this is significant to the local community to get a restaurant accepted, especially fast food. Your description says what they are known for, which is good. In your supporting, you are allowed to include the link to their social media instead of making reviewers search for it.

To be fair, it is also believed ML rejections only looks at the main photo… just depends on who you ask, but far from unanimous.
