I’ve been rejected for that. It’s arbitrary. The approval system is arbitrary.
There was a public pool I nominated that people can hang out and barbecue and stuff, but it is next to a campus apartment complex. They said it was private property.
Gated community that I can never get into is a poke spot because hey the nomination process is stupid. Plaque on the outside of a community center that is free for teens is rejected. The daycare my kid goes to is a gym. Why do I want pokemon players going to my kid’s daycare? Why do I want adults around kids that are under five? That seems statutory.
It’s dumb. I think if you try to rationalize it you’ll just get upset. The Non profit, that is free for families who need help and community, which I nominated got rejected, but the strip mall sign advertising the Petco and a wax place is a poke stop.
Not all reviewers know that pools at an apartment complex is eligible, as that was only clarified last May, and not all may come to the forums to see the Criteria Clarification Collection where this is posted; it’s also posted in the Help pages and Help section on the Wayfarer website. Again though, not all reviewers may know this, as they may have never taken a look at it.
Plus, rejections happen to the best of us, even with nominations we think will be guaranteed to be approved, so yes, it can be frustrating. I’ve had it happen, and I have to decide whether to submit it again or to appeal, with the former usually being the case, since we only get 2 appeals every 20 days.
It’s possible that you may need to improve on your nomination, to make it look like it’s a part of an apartment complex and not on private property. Feel free to share your nomination, and we’ll be glad to take a look at it.
Here’s some things to note: a shopping center sign can be eligible, and this is noted in the Criteria Clarification Collection. I’ve submitted a few of them, as they can be a general place marker for the entire shopping center, even if it has generic businesses in it, like a chain pet store.
As for the waxing salon, are you sure it’s a stop? It’s possible that it may be a Power Spot for Max battles, as many of these were imported from a 3rd party database. Some are unused Wayspots, but others are imports.
If the waxing salon is in fact a Wayspot and is a stop in PoGo, then it most likely falls in a grey area to some reviewers. Personally, I wouldn’t accept a waxing salon, as I don’t see it as a great place to be social/exercise at/explore. It may be hard to get removed though, as it may not meet any of the current removal criteria.
As for the gym at your child’s daycare, you can request that it be removed, since any place that has a primary function in terms of taking care of children is an inelgible location. When requestion removal, you’ll want to choose School (K-12) as your reason, and provide some additional info in the comment box. I like to take a current photo to show that it is in fact an inelgibile location, upload it to a 3rd party image upload service, and share the link in the comment box with a short note.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help with any issues that you may be having, as we’re here to help. Like I noted before, feel free to post screenshots of your nomination that was rejected, and we’d be glad to take a look at it.
You are correct that as we look at our own nominations we see things that we feel should have been accepted have been rejected and those we see on the gameboard around us contain things we feel should have rejected but have been accepted. This inconsistency is a source of frustration.
The appeals system was put in place to help address our personal submission problems.
However it’s not a simple picture when we look at the gameboard.
Time - the game boards contain places added over a long time period during which criteria have changed.
Added - in some areas there have places created from bought in data.
Emily - this is the nickname of the auto assessor through machine learning and sometimes it hadn’t learnt enough and approved things tgat it shouldn’t
Wayfinders - we are all human. We can mistakes. There are lots of submissions where the voting can go either way.
If you review regularly
You will know about the grey areas.
You will know that a submission can be poorly presented.
You will know you can make a mistake.
You will have rejected a submission.
Each time you reject there is another wayfinder who will feel aggrieved that their submission has had a “wrong” decision. As far as they are concerned your reviewing is a problem.
If you don’t review, then please do take up reviewing. It gives an insight into the process and helps improve your own submissions.
