Hi everyone! I’m seeking guidance for a “difficult” nomination that got rejected three times in the past. The final submission may have triggered a Wayfarer warning which I received on the same day, so I want to be very careful to do it right.
The POI an open air stage in a park near city hall in Bergedorf, Germany (a part of Hamburg). The stage itself is documented here: https://www.openair-bergedorf.de
My lazy texts first time around may have been what torpedoed the nominations.
Now I want to resubmit as follows - showing here in English, but would use German in the nomination. Where I’m really unsure is what would be the best main photo to use for the nomination: Before I tried a wide shot, and also close-ups of the stage stairs (see below). Note: unfortunately there is no sign to photograph. It’s just an open area. Thanks in advance for your help!
Description: The charming open-air stage in Bergedorf Rathauspark is a central hub for local culture. It regularly hosts popular outdoor events such as the annual Bergedorf Poetry Slam, choir concerts, and neighborhood cultural festivals. A wonderful spot in the greenery to come together and enjoy local art.
Supporting Info:
-
A Great Place for Culture & Exploration: This permanent open-air stage actively promotes local arts and community engagement. It serves as the official venue for the annual Bergedorf Open Air Poetry Slam, neighborhood festivals, and various choir and musical performances.
-
Officially Documented: The stage’s active cultural significance and event history are coordinated by the local cultural association and fully documented at: https://www.openair-bergedorf.de
-

-
Safe Pedestrian Access: The structure is located entirely inside a public municipal park, offering wide, safe, and unobstructed pedestrian access completely separated from vehicular traffic.
My original submissions 2023-09-29, 2022-10-10, 2022-09-13:
For the new texts I’m writing out the details and enhancing them w gemini. Does it matter? The texts for the older submissions are in the screenshots.
The information is accurate, by the way. Could add that they sometimes have open air cinema, and occasionally DGB Kundgebungen. German is not my native language so I prefer to prepare the texts w help from chatgpt, gemini or similar. I’ll wait for a sunny day and re-submit with a similar photo as you pointed out.
It does, because no one is reading these 4 long bullet points. Be mindful of the reviewers’ time and only call out the important or non-obvious elements - AI is really prone to filler text and this is exactly what’s happening here, this supporting info can be trimmed down lke 80%.
#1 can be cut out. You already said all that in the description so no need to repeate yourself. Most of the rest is also fluff. It sounds like a great spot but the picture looks a bit generic so the biggest issue is proving you are not lying about some piece of pavement in a park.
Better. The link shows a lot about the theater group but doesn’t really prove they use this space untill the 2 tiny photos at the bottom. Either direct people there, add a bit about the history (which looks pretty cool) in the description, or find more links with pictures. You can also wait for an event and take a picture of it busy with people for the supporting picture.
I thought of that too (taking a picture during an event) - supporting info would be fine, I guess, but identifiable persons in the main picture would cause rejection.
Thanks everyone! All good advice - will consolidate into a new supporting info and try to submit. Since the turnaround time is so quick, worst case, I’ll have to wait for the next event to get some additional supporting images.
In cases like this having a picture be busy really helps show how social this space is. Definitely only for the supporting photo and try to get a moment when most people are turned away or at a distance.
The history bit could be like “in the 1950s performers of the ancient Greek plays stood under a stone coupela in classic Greek style as hundreds came to watch. This play and this performer were here this year.”
Then add the website you found the info to the supporting text.
@niktero @kawin240 @Xenopus Thanks for your help and advice - this time the nomination was accepted!
