How are there two waypoints in one level 17 s2 cell?

Here is the context: There was a gym that was like 30m or around there off the actual location. So I decided to request to move it to the correct location. In the image I have attached, the pink circle represents the gym that was recently moved. But it was moved to a place where there was already a pokestop. So right now there are two waypoints in one level 17 s2 cell. Is this a bug? Like what exactly is happening? Btw the edit was made a few days ago, it has been about a week already and both have appeared in game.

Welcome to the forum

There is no limit to the number of wayspots you can have in an S2 L17.

Pokemon Go will usually only use a single one of them as a pokestop/gym. Others might get used as powerspots.

If a wayspot that is used as a pokestop.gym gets moved into a different cell, it can take a little time for Pokemon Go to recalculate what it uses.

Do you know how long it will recalculate? Cuz it has already appeared in game, unless the S2 cell check is another process. Speaking of the check, is it an automatic process or do I have to do anything to trigger the calculation? Thanks for the reply btw, appreciate it

New wayspots take around 48 hours to appear in Pokemon Go. I think that recalculation takes a little longer. If in a week you still have two active pokestops/gyms in that cell, it’s probably there to stay.

The internal rules about cell usage, which the community have gleaned, are not known completely, Sometimes, a cell has two pokestops and Scopely Explore have said this is correct, but no-one in the community can work out why.

Hello and Welcome,

I corrected a location which put 2 pokestops in the same L17 cell. It stayed like this for over a year! It’s only recently re-calculated.

I know of another “2 in a cell” that has been like that for longer and it still hasn’t re-calculated.

I take it as I have done my bit, it’s now down to Scopely.

Good Luck
