2 wayspot active in L17 cell

Not sure if this is a Niantic Bug or PokemonGo bug.

9/26 - Edited location of wayspot through Niantic help as it was in the wrong location, couldn’t process in game due to, I assume, previous move.

9/27 - Wayspot moved to correct location 40.25593,-120.46513

Issue - Wayspot is still active making it 2 wayspots in a level 17 cell. Second wayspot is at 40.255964,-120.464891. Is this deviation in expected behavior due to niantic correcting the wayspot rather than going through Pokemon Go?

Have you check onsite in pogo screen that this happen? Because pogomap.info is crowdsource and whats shown may not entirely fact

Yes

There was another reported incident like this, which can be found here:

Wayfarer staff marked it as not a bug. They also didn’t give an explanation for it though.

Hey,

Thanks for your report. We’re constantly making improvements to Pokémon GO and occasionally, you may notice changes to the PokéStops or Gyms in your community. There is nothing for the Wayfarer team to act on in this case.

Thanks,

Thank you for your response. So there’s no concern about players abusing this to create clusters since wayspots don’t seem to dissapear if Niantic moves them?

It used to be the case that clusters could be created, by submitting wayspots at one location and then moving them into the cluster. That is no longer possible, since Pogo re-evaluates the playboard when a wayspot is moved.

@NianticAaron is saying that there is no actual issue here, which strongly implies that the perception of an issue is incorrect. Since the map being used is a user-generated one with no guarantee of accuracy, the reliance on that map could be the cause of the mis-perception.

(Obviously, an actual official map would help a lot, but that’s a separate discussion and one with a possibility of actually happening at some point.)

Same cell when viewed on IITC-CE as well but it’s not updating anymore that’s why I didn’t use that one for the image.

Without an official map, the only way to be sure is to go there in person, open up the nomination screen, look at the map and note where things are. Then compare this to the IITC map or the pogomap.info map to check the cell boundaries and look at the objects in Pokemon Go to see what they actually are (pokestop? gym? powerspot? not showing at all?)

This is tedious to do. Since Niantic said there is no issue, the likelihood of there actually being two non-sponsored pokestops/gyms in the same cell is extremely low, but you could check as above.

I did go back, the exact coordinates, per pokemon go, are in my initial post and were used to update pogo.info map attached in initial post, but here (yellow) is where it would be on the IITC-CE map if it was still updating.

Both the yellow and blue dots are active pokestops/gyms in Pokemon Go? Can they both be spun?

Yes

Can you post an image from pogo?

Yeah I’ll grab one on my way home this evening. The yellow is a gym as is the one in the field. Main concern is I need to do a location edit on the one in the field too but it’s actual location is also in the same cell.

Check for one of them being a sponsored gym. Sponsored gyms cannot be spun. I haven’t spotted anything else different about them.

All stops/gyms in that area can be spun

Double-check the yellow and blue ones specifically. It’s easy to /think/ everything is spinnable and not remember/notice that one of them isn’t.

I spin them almost every day since they are on my way home from work.

i can’t think of anything else to explain it. I also can’t believe Niantic would say “no issue” if there were two gyms in the same low-level cell.

One is a gym the other is a normal stop. But if I move the one in the field and it stays then that’d be 2 gyms and one stop in same cell.
